People need to understand that the quicker you can get to the league the more money you’ll make. Rookie contracts are not a lot but if you can prove yourself your second contract will be a very big one. Sometimes it’s not about having a hall of fame career but getting to the NFL proving yourself and making some cash. This was the case for Ray Ray, Van, Scott, Hearn etc.

Then you’ve got to hope they will come back for their degree or have it already. In these players cases they are too good not to make a team.

You hope they come back and get their degree, but they then have to pay for it. If it's a financial decision to help their family then it's safe to assume they wouldn't be able to afford it.
It's also not a given that they are too good to make a team. We've seen better players not get drafted/not make a practice squad.

You make a great point, at the end of the day we really can’t control who stays and goes. The good thing is we have some elite freshman and sophomore’s and juniors in this group so next man up!

If another team signs a player from the practice squad, he is guaranteed a minimum 3 week contract at a minimum of $465,000 annually or $30,000 per week.
If you aren't going to improve your draft stock by returning and you've already played in 2-3 Championship games, winning one, it might be time to move on.

320 players don't make the practice squad in each draft class though. Some teams have practice squad players for years.
If you aren't going to improve your draft stock, but haven't earned your degree it's still a tough decision and that degree will go a longer way in the long run.

Yes, 3 years is the max on one practice squad. Then you can go to another and try your luck.
That being said, it drops the 320 spots down considerably for new players coming in. There are already a lot of players competing for a limited number of spots.
I would say not a lot of first year grads make $120k, but how many of those underclassmen are grads?

with a team and teams can't have more than 4 veterans on the practice squad. A veteran is defined as a player who has spent at least 6 games on a 53 man roster at least twice. Best to take your shot and come back for your degree, which Dabo encourages them to do.

I know the rules, still doesn't mean it's a good chance to make any practice squad team.
Also, teams can sign players to their practice squads that have been on other practice squads, it's not like you have 3 years and you're done.
My point is, if you don't get a good grade you can come back and earn your degree and the chances will be the same to make a practice squad.

improve your chances with another year, why not take a chance on making a couple of hundred grand. My guess is that Dabo has told him that he may actually hurt his draft stock if he returns and the players behind him are better than he is. Dabo will let you come back later and get your degree.
Some people get tired of college before 4 years is up and want to make a living. Especially those who have to work so hard and spend every summer there too.

I'm not speaking on any player specifically, and I'm sure Dabo can give wiser advise than you or I and knows much more about specific situations.
If you won't improve your chances with another year then why not get your degree (while you don't have to pay for it) and take that chance the next year?
The thing is, if you don't make that practice squad without the degree then the "making a living" part sucks a lot more when you don't have that degree.

The 7800 a week is only game weeks! NFL players get paid per game, not a annual salary. 7800 a week sounds awesome even if it is only 16 weeks. But they dont get an advance. So Jan-Sept you get NOTHING! Then you start getting paid each week. Extremely hard to for first year players to go 8 months with nothing. Many have to take out loans from agents etc. Then are in debt to them, and if something happens, it can be a nightmare. Heck, even some big time contract players take out loans during the off season until their first game check comes because they can't control their spending.
