14 Spot Jump in NET

Goes to show how important (I guess?) winning margin is in the NET rankings. I don't think we moved up at all when we beat FSU on the road earlier this year. Hopefully we can go into Loserville Saturday and beat the brakes off of the Cards.
Question for any NET experts, are "Quad" losses variable throughout the year? For example say you played a team in November that was a Quad 3 team at the time and got the win. But in February, that team is now a Quad 2 team. Do you get credit for a Quad 2 or Quad 3 win?

Yes, it varies. It fluctuates many times during the season. Just as offensive efficiency is part of the rpi, that's what's accounting to our net. Same reason you have an Ohio st team that clearly won't be in the tournament can have a net better than 50 and be 3 games under 500.

If memory serves, we actually fell 5 spots following our 1 point win in Tally.
Your Quadrant records are fluid as teams rise and fall in the NET rankings. At one point we had as many as 4 Q1 wins, and today are down to 2.

I see, interesting. Really wish a couple of our bad loss teams would quit sucking and get out of Q4! But also equally as frustrating to see Q1 wins teams drop out.

Duke (34) and NCSU (38) winning a couple of games would have them in a position to jump back into the top 30 and qualify again as Q1. Will be important to have as many of those as possible on Selection Sunday.
Bad losses and a low NET don't necessarily kill your chance of an at-large bid, but it must be offset with quality wins. A year ago Rutgers made it in with 3 Q3/Q4 losses and a NET of 78... but they also had a 7-7 record vs. Q1... would really help our resume compared to other bubble teams if we're sitting with 4-5 Q1 wins on Selection Sunday...

Good point about Rutgers.

They were also 18-14 last year, so they needed those 7 quad one wins for their resume.
We will have a much better overall record, but not that many quad one wins.

Actually, when we beat FSU earlier, we went down 3 spots and they went up 3 spots.

I think margin of victory only factors in from 1-10 points. I thought I've read that before. So anything 10 or more is the same.

This is true to an extent... while the margin of victory is indeed capped at 10, the NET formulae factors in efficiency numbers. When you're scoring more per possession and giving up less per possession like last night, both your offensive and defensive efficiency numbers are going to improve... so while the margin is capped, a blowout win helps improve that particular piece of rhe NET more than what you might see with a 10 point win.

still. Sadly, that ranking will probably drop Saturday win or lose just for having played them they're so bad. Perhaps a convincing win could turn the tide on that.
Go Tigers!

If the Coots could just win some games. Dang them- knocked Clemson out of the CFP and now their basketball team is doing their part to keep the tigers out of the tourney.
