Back in the 1990s- early 2000s I was a member at Hollywood Tree Country Club in Simpsonville and played in the dogfights they had on Wednesdays and Fridays and Sterling “Brassie” Smith also played. He is the tiger who talked the Miami player for the safety that won the game. Heck of a nice gentleman.

In 1969 I was on a temporary work assignment in F0rt Lauderdale. Several of us decided to take a charter after work to drift for King Mackerel. I wore my Block C cap. After we let our lines out and things settled down a guy was walking around asking do you need anything etc. A short while passed and I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. He asked me where I was from, I told him SC. He said I noticed your cap and it brought back memories. He asked me did I remember the 51 Orange Bowl? I told him I was a young boy then but I knew all about it. I said it was Clemson legend and Sterling Smith tackled a Miami player for a safety to win the game. He said you know your history and continued on to say I am Frank Smith the guy that he tackled. We had a good laugh. What a chance meeting drifting off the coast of Florida. BTW we caught 3 nice Kings that evening.
