question/concern about polls and ineligible teams...

i was thinking the other day when looking at the rankings about the fact that Ohio State (and possibly Penn State) cant compete in a post season game of any kind, yet they are still allowed to be ranked. Most would think that this is fine BUT, in my opinion, since they are ineligible for postseason competition, i dont think they should be able factor into the polls.
Think about it, if they finish ahead of us in the polls, ultimately, a team that is being punished and is a non-factor for postseason play is being a factor in our ranking, and ultimately our BCS ranking.
Am I off base here? just thought i'd bring it up

Well, rankings only really matter for bowls

Which means OSU being ranked above us doesn't affect us. Whether we're 14th or 15th, the bowl would be the same.

if we are an at-large candidate for a bcs bowl, it could affect our final bcs ranking if we are a spot lower in both polls (plus the computer polls) because of an ineligble team

OSU and PSU can't be, and aren't, ranked in the BCS.

They are also not ranked in the USA Today or Harris polls, which are components of the BCS rankings.
The AP can rank them, but the AP's poll doesn't count.

used to be probation meant no bowl, ranking, or tv. Now probation can mean anything or be nothing but words on a piece of paper with no impact. if you are on probation you've done enough wrong it should go back to the old definition. arent the coots still technically on probation for the whitney? so what exactly is their punishment. they oversign and cut or stiff kids scholarship wise so the make a mockery of even that punishment

the Coaches poll is not ranking ineligible teams

with it being 1/3 of the BCS, even if other polls used in the formula rank them it will not affect us.
They have been ranked in AP but it doesn't count for anything.
ESPN has been reemphasizing the AP because when the BCS goes away the writers will again be in charge of molding public opinion when it comes to rankings
