Friday Update: Elliott recaps scrimmage, running backs and QB battle
Co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott walked off the field following Wednesday’s scrimmage in Death Valley, and his demeanor was that of a coach who realizes that it’s still spring practice. The Tigers scrimmaged for over two hours inside of Memorial Stadium, and Elliott said that he saw both good and bad during the session. Full Story » |

He gets way too many accolades not to be "the guy", but I know from past experiences that it is hard for coaches to go past the ones who have been there the longest. I reference DW4 playing back-up to DW4. I hope we learned our lesson.

I wonder if some of the praise on hunter was an attempt to light a fire under some of the other qbs. Particularly Bryant and Cooper. Kind of give them a reality check that nothing is going to be given to them and if they don't perform they won't play. Just a thought

We knew Hunter Johnson had talent. The question was how fast that he could learn our offensive system. It's not good for Bryant that he has not outright captured the job. I still think that Bryant will come out spring ball on top of the depth chart based on seniority. Fall practice will determine who the starter is. May it be the best player to run this offense and not be based on class. Trevor Lawrence will make it super competitive a year from now.

I just hope Dabo doesn't hesitate to pull the trigger going with a talented true freshman like he did in 2014 playing Stoudt over DW. I think we beat UGA if DW plays the entire game.

I hope Dabo this time around is willing to start the best qb period. Watson was clearly better than Stoudt. Is the difference that great between Johnson and Bryant?

The nation's #1 defense got shelled because the offense picked up ONE first down the entire second half. They were gassed. If we had any offensive production in that half, there is no way the defense gets gashed like they did.
If DW played the entire game we would have at least had a shot.

The 3rd quarter and start of the 4th it was nothing but 3 and outs by both teams....
DW would have put together at least a drive or two and changed the flow of that game.

You think Stoudt was better than Watson? The game against Georgia proved that Watson was ready to start as a true freshman. A Clemson qb is more than a game manager. They have to real playmakers.

I think Elliott, Scott, and Streeter will push for the best QB in the fall to start regardless of who it is and win that battle (if it even is one) with Dabo. It sounds to me like Johnson could well be the starter by the fall from the last couple of articles. I just don't think Bryant is going to be the guy. Kinda surprised that Cooper isn't stepping up a bit more. Cooper and Johnson is who I felt the battle would come down to from the start. If Bryant didn't earn the #2,spot over Schu last year, he just isn't going to end up the starter by end of fall camp.
I have said for a while Bryant should haves looked at moving to DB, I think with his athleticism he could make that transition easily. At another school he could probably go WR but Clemson is just to talented at the WR position.

I see where you are coming from saying that Bryant may need to move positions. It just doesn't sound like the arm talent is there or getting there...... However....
I think Schuessler was a dang good QB.... Especially last year. I felt he could have really stepped up as a solid QB if something would have happened.
