who has been a terrible football school for nearly it's entire history can suddenly become a football power why does it make it impossible for Clemson to become the same in basketball?

Lack of commitment to do it and lack of understanding what it would take.

I feel like this is where somebody says "because we are in the ACC." Like Sakerlina has used for years, "because we are in the sec in football."

Baylor also has a pretty suspicious head coach running the show.

I care enough to want to have a good program.. Not to demand a national championship but at least make the tourney and win a game or two in it every other year

Not a lot of good bball players in SC

And I've heard Texas has some decent football talent. Frankly it's a wonder that Baylor was so bad for so long.

Fair point although we aren't exactly far away from NC which has some of best talent. I understand we would have to recruit against UNC, Duke, NC State and even up to UVA but Baylor had to recruit against UT Austin, T&M, etc.. And from what I've heard Waco is quite the trashy sh!thole, but I could be wrong about that. Perhaps my point should be: why not Clemson?

It seems that we are afraid to try at Clemson. It's sad, really.

Define "success"?

The man's teams never won an NCAA tournament game! OP's teams were exposed without exception when they faced top notch competition at tourney time.

you don't smoke and mirror your way to that many wins

I don't care who was in the ACC...
having more wins than any school besides the big 2 over a three year stretch is impressive

We had just remodeled Littlejohn and he had a couple of solid recruiting classes.

That was Clemson showing flashes of committing to basketball.
I do not think OP would have sustained that success, but I don't think we would have done worse than NIT if he had stayed either.
My beef with Clemson isn't that we never support basketball. We do support it here and there. But we don't do it consistently. We never have. If we will, we can be a really good basketball program.

OP goes to the dance a 4th year if a stays, as BB did with his guys
There is no reason to think he would not have continued to have success. None. Any reason is just a flat out guess.

based on what?

I don't get it...
Purnell had the kid from Georgia locked up. How often do you know a year out who you are getting, especially at a place like Clemson?
What recruiting class has BB had that has been better than what is "perceived" that OP was bringing in before he left?
and let me be clear.... I've never been a "fire BB" guy. I like him.
But there is seriously something wrong when you have the topside of a resume that we have this year... and with 2 conference games left, you cannot even play your way in (outside of winning ACCT)
likely 10 ACC wins, 5 top 50 wins... and we can't even play ourselves in
something is wrong
