I wonder if NIL/paying players etc. will actually work to slow down the rate of players hitting the portal. The blue chippers, the superstars, and promising QB talent will always have a landing place in the portal and a pay day awaiting them. They will probably have (probably already have) bidding wars for their services.

But for the very average and vast majority who enter and never get picked up, if they were already earning something at their current school plus a scholarship it might deter them risking it for the very real chance of having nothing and nowhere to go.
