A new term for programs that do not have the coaching acumen to recruit players from high school and develop them into elite players. Remember that term Tiger Nation because I'm going to do my best to create a viral narrative for coaches like Mike Norvell, Jimbo Fisher, and Deion Sanders. Big Middle Fingers up to all coaches who decide to take short cuts by exploiting the talents of players who are desperately seeking a quick payout. YOU ARE RUINING COLLEGE FOOTBALL!
Can't wait until Clemson, a REAL college football program beats down every portal-built team in their way.
PORTAL-BUILT! It just means..... NOTHING! GO TIGERS!

Well, baseball and basketball allow for player to be drafted during their freshman year. The portal is required in many instances.

Yep, baseball is pretty much like football once they enroll. They can portal but not turn pro. What is it? Three years or 21 years of age(whichever comes first).

'Portal -$luts". That's what some of these schools have become.
Henceforth, let's just call them what they are.
I hope Dabo's way pays off, he's a visionary and like you I'm trusting his judgement.

College football will continue being driven by money, the difference moving forward is that the players are now involved in the financial arrangement and will continue to be.
Dabo’s way will continue to fail when it comes to building and sustaining an elite program in this new era.
I suggest you choose another sport if it bothers you so much, because you are destined to be wrong on this.

False dichotomy altogether. Dabo is in favor of paying players that EARN IT! Not some whiny self-entitled brat from high school or the transfer portal. If you want a piece of Clemson's NIL program that is actually a TOP-10 NIL program, then you have to come to Clemson and PROVE YOURSELF. What's wrong with that?

I believe an elite high school recruit or transfer portal player has earned it.

Pretty much every other head coach in college football agrees.
It speaks volumes that you equate a player who seeks to maximize his financial position as a “self-entitled brat.”
As for proving themselves at Clemson first, that’s ridiculous. Do you also believe that a player should prove himself at Clemson before he is awarded a scholarship, or granted access to a tutor?
Extending your ridiculous standard to the real world, do you think a hiring professional should tell a potential hire that they will only pay them a salary once they have proven themselves at the company? LOL

They have not done anything at Clemson yet. What have they done for Clemson to earn anything other than a scholarship? Not only do student athletes obtain a scholarship, but they also obtain a stipend already. So, what's your point JK? You have no valid argument of why Clemson should risk valuable resources above and beyond for a bench warmer in the portal or some unproven high school recruit that may end up being a bust. I take it that you've never managed a business before.
Who on the roster right now would you strip a scholarship from in order to grab some self-entitled player from the portal? Who in the past 2 portal cycles would you trade out for and who would you replace on the current roster? You have a limited number of scholarships available, so choose wisely. Also, in doing so, you're going to send a message to future players that we only care about winning at any cost and if you fumble the ball during a game, we're removing your scholarship.
NIL is different from the portal and CLEMSON'S NIL program is in the Top 10 in the nation. Therefore, you should have no argument regarding NIL. Remember, a college athlete is only getting paid if someone or some company uses the player's NAME, IMAGE, or LIKENESS. So, the real argument you make is regarding the portal. Who from the previous portal cycle would you recruit and who on the current roster would you remove from the team?
Imagine if you will, a scholarship player or even a walk on that is contributing to the school that he loves and chose from high school, and Coach Swinney recruits a guy from the portal and offers him $500K to play for one season at Clemson. Now, imagine that said portal transfer becomes a bust, but is still owed $500K for that season. To make matters worse, the walk on who earned no NIL contributed more to the team's success than the transfer portal player. That's how you burn a program to the ground. I don't know about you, but if I were a Hunter Renfrow type of player and a DJ Uiagalelei type of player showed up earning $500K right out of the gate, I'd sit the rest of my games out and transfer immediately.

You can coach ball security all day long, but you cannot execute ball security for the players. The metrics from last season do not indicate that our coaches were outcoached. However, the number of turnovers indicate the reason why Clemson lost 4 games.
