The point is...

Bowden was hired as Clemson's head coach in 1999. He was entirely too inconsistent, prideful, and stubborn to survive at Clemson 26 years. He was lucky he lasted 10 years. For many, that was 5 years too long.

See JK loves to post derogatory posts about Dabo. Then he/she gets all offended like when anyone posts anything that could be remotely construed as negative toward BB. Today raider12® posted asking the question, "If Cliff Ellis were coaching this year's basketball team, would we have lost to the coots? The rest is a chain reaction.

Yep and the future would have looked weak. Luckily we have Dabo. What he has done for football and basketball is one of the most amazing things in sports history. They will be talking what Dabo did for football and basketball for decades. It will be nice for Brad's great great grandchildren to learn about Dabo's role in both football in hoops.

Dabo is going to do even bigger things by learning from Brownell.

For example, how to use the transfer portal, how to use NIL in recruiting, etc.
With Brad's help, I am confident that Dabo can make us an elite football program.

While our accomplishments under Dabo are nothing short of extraordinary, the bottom line is that Dabo has not had nearly the same level of success in this current era of college football.
Brad has, and Dabo can learn a lot from him. It seems that he already has.

Second, you have no clue as to the interaction between Dabo and BB except what you see on TV and speculate.
But keep singing your BB is superior to Dabo song. It makes you happy. Just spare the rest of of us the bulk of your lyrical nonsense.

I use the term current era because the new portal rules and NIL changed things.

Some coaches adapted better than others. A select few didn’t seem to adapt at all.
Unfortunately, Dabo falls in the latter category.
Not surprisingly, we saw our program decline from being top 2 for several years in a row to not even top 10 the last few years.
I don’t think this current era is solely to blame. Dabo also messed up by hiring unproven coaches for multiple key positions in a row.

Dabo also hired some unknowns at OC. Elliott and Scott both had no OC experience. That worked out pretty well. Dabo tried the same thing and it didn't work out. But he made corrections. Every one makes mistakes. Dabo, Brownell, Noonan, Poppie, Bakich and every other coach at Clemson. Why try to divide the fan base? Are we not fans of Clemson first in all sports? I like Dabo, I like Brownell, I like Noonan, etc. I don't understand the need to put one down to support the other.
If Brownell doesn't get us back to the Elite 8 is this year, in your view, a disappointment and Clemson basketball irrelevant? It isn't to me. Brad has had a solid few years lately. I love it. I would like to see a first ACCT championship under Brownell this year. Won't be too disappointed if we play well and lose.
If you are truly a Clemson fan, then support the coaches until they don't warrant your support. Most of our athetic programs are doing well, and the coaches deserve credit for that.

So let's take your "current era" term, purely made up though it may be.
Mar 5, 2025, 8:41 AM
[ in reply to I use the term current era because the new portal rules and NIL changed things. ] |
|
In that ERA: (2021 - present)
Dabo: ACC championships: 2 (2022, 2024), Playoff appearances: 1
BB: ACC championships: 0, Elite 8: 1
By what metric has BB been more successful than Dabo?
Conference championships and playing for a national championship are the ONLY metric. By that count, Dabo is up 3-1.
Here's the thing. I like BB. He may well be the best coach ever at Clemson. I hope he wins the ACC this year and goes further than the elite 8. But even if he does, there is no comparison that any non partial person would make where your silly arguments for BB over Dabo holds water.

Dabo definitely made Brad feel like he he did something. I think Brad knows he wouldn't have a job unless Dabo did all that convincing he had to keep Brad's job. Dabo had work two jobs, football and basketball,.to turn the hoops program around, but he did it. Pretty soon he will take the training wheels off and see if Brad can handle things on his own.

Whatever idea you have about your BB cult you find obscure or non universally accepted terms to support it.
The world university games is hardly a championship that most basketball fans are even aware of. And I will grant your well made and solid argument (again made in a way as derogatory toward Dabo) that he knows nothing about it, due to the fact that nothing similar exists in the college football world.
Again good job on your part of showing yourself to be what you criticize about Dabo supporters. You think BB is above any critique.

What's ironic is that Brad Brownell would lambast you for all the negativity you speak about Dabo.
He would also point out that Dabo's been extremely supportive of the basketball program as well, and then lambast you yet again.
