We don't need to have a crappy defense from start to finish that degenerates as the season progresses. We don't need to feel like our offense better score 40 every game or we're going to lose.

That is exactly the way I feel. Of 49 years of being a Clemson fan, I have been embarassed by some losses. With this one, I feel that I have really loss something, and don't have a clue on how to get it back. I've never in my life ever felt HUMIIATED, so I guess that must be what I'm feeling right now. I was ashame to face my wife this morning. Above all of these AWESOME awful feelings that I'm having because of this loss. My love for Clemson will get me through it.

both against the same team..and they didnt execute well do to your scheme.only reason they shut tech down is because techs offense sucks.any offense with a pulse put up huge numbers against us this year.the O had to bail us out in most of our wins

That's exactly right. The defense was 2-12, maybe 3-11 if you count the BC game is a good one defensively. I wouldn't.
Wofford put up big numbers against the defense.
They made a FSU QB making his first start look like Joe Montana. Same thing with the QB at Maryland.

1. The defense gets torched 2. In the press conference he says "its on me, we'll fix it, it won't happen again" 3. Nothing gets fixed..... back to Step 1

The thing that gets me, is he always follows up the "it's on me" talk with essentially blaming the players on their lack of readiness, lack of execution, etc. Basically, he never really accepts any blame himself. Has he ever talked about the game plan post game? About play calling or adjustments during the game? No. It's essentially that the kid's weren't ready, didn't tackle, didn't execute, etc.
He may in fact not have the personnel he needs, but at this point, it's time for a change. If Steele can't motivate the players to be ready or properly execute, then maybe someone else can inspire these kids.

I agree with Steele should go. He had a month to prepare our defence for this one game. Our offence scored 470 points in 14 games. Our defence gave up 410 points in 14 games. Most any offence that scores 470 a season, should be undefeated with a an average defence. I don't think that an average defence gives up 410 point with our schedule.

Not that I don't agree that KS should go, but on the flipside of the coin our style of offensive this year puts a lot of pressure on our defense. Our defense played the most snaps out of any other defense in the ACC this year, and correct me if I'm wrong but even in games we won we generally lost the statistical category of Time Of Posession.

our defense has been our problem all season.. offense had to put up big numbers to get the wins..33 points should win any game if the defense holds up their end..I think we must get a proven defense coach..we have good talent on defense but the defense coaches are not geeting the talent to surface. Danny Ford has been away from the game for some time now but he could have taken that same talent and they would not have scored 70 points. I agree that Steele has to go. We got our "buuts" handed to us, however I still love Clemson..Go Tigers!!!!

I seriously doubt the game has passed Danny Ford by. His teams would still be able to block and tackle. His teams would improve as the season goes on, not regress and go backwards. And this is not a young team. Offensive Line, Running Back, TE are upperclassmen. Pretty much the entire starters on Defense are Seniors or RS Juniors.

Did this sort of thing happen this badly even when he was at Baylor? I mean, this is not only the worst bowl loss ever- it's our worst reaming EVER. No one's ever broken 60 points on us. Texas Tech got in the 50s, and I think Alabama and Tulane did as well long ago.
70 points. A team scored 70 points on the Clemson Tigers.
I don't think the choice to fire Steele is in Dabo's hands anymore- it's hopefully just a given.

I'm not one to be reactionary about firing coaches after losses, but let's just say I think if there's ever a case where a D-coordinator deserves to lose his job, it's this case. I think the whole season bears that out. I don't know what his magic touch was against VT, but he didn't have it for the other 12 games.

I don't know anything about his relationship with recruits, but if a commit watched our defense all year long, he's probably already rethinking his decision. Steele gone probably won't make a difference. In fact, it might instill some confidence that we are truly trying to fix the problem.

We actually forced them into that many third down situations? "About" as bad as it gets? I don't think it could have been worse. That was the most embarrasing loss I have ever endured as a Clemson fan.

I like Steele. I really do. And I have questioned his play calling at times. But enough is enough. Why can't this squad stop the run? Why can't they "wrap up tackle?" Why have they looked lost this whole season? And how in the blue hell did they crush VT twice?

NOOOO you got it all wrong. It will be written on the resume as follows
Responsible for a multiple record setting defensive performance in Clemsons first BCS game in 30 years.
Its the truth and thats how they would tell you to turn a positive into a negative in job hunting class.

Of course he will Dabo has to place accountability on someone other than himself.
He should have never been hired. Yet since he was he can blame Napier, now Steele, and eventually someone else.
I already see Tigernet posters blaming steele.
They should blame guy who brought him in. It would be nice to see some of that Rah Rah emotion when things are bad. Grab one player or take a player out that is not making a play.
4.5 year in. We got about 4.5 more before Clemson finally cuts ties with him.

I think you guys should pay a little more attention to the games. Dabo jumped Jaron Brown's butt when he came to the sideline after his second drop. what do you want him to do, grab his face mask ala woody hayes?

Here are some interesting defensive stats (points/game)that might help. (includes bowl games)
Clemson - 29.1 Tulsa (last year) - 28.0 OK State -27.1 Baylor - 37.2
Seems like wide open offenses drag down defensive statistics. Don't know what should happen to Steele. I'll leave that to more knowledgeable people.

How about these stats of offensive points per game and defensive ppg?
LSU 38.5 10.5 Bama 36.0 8.8 Clemson 33.6 29.3
I know the point was wide open offenses which these are not, but scoring and giving up points doesn't have to go hand in hand. If we could get a DC that can keep points given up to something respectable and we're talking about being a legit top 10 team, maybe even top 5 and in the discussion for a chance at the BCS title.
