the Tommy Bowden refrain of "one play away" from winning. I don't care if is true, bringing that into the conversation just makes losing that much worse. It won't change the record, and just makes us sound like whiny little beyotches. pardon my French.
Just say that when all the dust settled, we lost on the scoreboard, and we have to find a way to turn that around in future games. No need for public dissection, message boards do enough of that already. We have at least 40 TNet coaches on here who would be undefeated right now, no problem.
On to Syracuse, and let's win THAT one. The "one game at a time" approach was never needed more than it is right now, for this team. Beat Syracuse. Period. Go, Tigers.

Lick the wounds and move on. Football is great entertainment and in the big scheme of life it's not that big of a deal. I lost my wife, the love of my life for 47 years, to COVID September 16th 2020, ...now that's a big deal. I was blessed with her for the 47 years is the only way I can look at it and survive. Be blessed with what we have. Go Tigers!!

Football and any other sport is nothing but entertainment for those who watch it.
All sports could end tomorrow and it would not affect me in the least. When you have come face to face with the grim reaper and are now living on borrowed time due to prayers being answered, you suddenly, and I do mean suddenly, realize what your priorities in life should have been. And I can assure you, as a fan it ain't football or any other insignificant form of entertainment.
For those of you who live and die for any thing other than glorifying God, and putting your loved ones and friends at the top of your life's to do list, you still have time. And believe me, when it is your time to leave this earth, you won't regret making that decision. I just wish I had done it sooner.

Sorry to hear about your loss! Losing my wife would be a big hurdle for me to overcome no doubt.
5 years ago I might as well been in a coma after a loss. Older I get I just appreciate being able to go watch them. Don’t misunderstand, I hate to lose but handle it a lot differently these days. Been alive for multiple national championship appearances and 3 wins. Way more than most college football fans will ever experience. After the 90’s and early 2000’s I never thought we would even win the ACC again.

7 more plays in order to secure a victory. One play away is like being 1 minute away from being on time to work. Just get there 10 minutes early and you don't have to worry about it.

Bowden left a nerve exposed saying stuff like that as an excuse. I don't think Dabo is making an excuse. He is just wanting his team to know how close they are to their goal so they keep fighting.
Maybe a better frame of reference would be:
three plays can make a lot of difference to games for wins or losses. We missed three plays that costs us a 4-0 record and a top 5 ranking. Reality is we missed those plays and now the team knows how thin the line is between winning and losing. So it is up to us coaches to fix that and the players to execute it to get back on the side of the line we want to be on and what we work so hard to be on.

Lost by 21 points. It’s not “one play away” if you have imagine the entire game being different and create scenarios where we would have won the Duke game. It’s literally multitudes of plays away for the Duke game.

Dabo is not Tommy Bowden. If he hasn't done enough to convince you of that yet I don't think he can.
If he feels like this is what his team needs to hear to build confidence, fine. He's the head coach.
The alternative is the story that the media (and some fans) are portraying. "Their talent has dropped off" "their coaches aren't good enough" "they've fallen behind the times" I prefer the positive outlook. This is a not a program that has fallen off the face of the earth. We were 1 inexplicable loss to South Carolina last year from being in the playoffs. That's a FACT. This team should be 4-0 but they aren't. Hopefully we can win the games we should win going forward. We have to turn around this trend of losing games we shouldn't lose. Part of that is finding way to put teams away. We've lost our killer instinct when we have a lead.
