One more thought on NIL.

Jun 24, 2021, 7:17 PM

No one, certainly not me, knows how it's going to work out.

But, I am convinced that recruiting kids with character will become even more important. I know we've all heard a bunch of stories about 18 year old kids who got big signing bonuses from baseball and blew it all, ruining their lives with poor decisions by the time they were 21.

The same path will be available to kids who are looking to sign with an agent right out of HS and all of a sudden have a wallet full of money with no thought of how to handle it.

Coaches talk all the time about "recruiting character." They will have to kick it up a notch now.

Athletic departments will need to hire a financial advisor to provide financial consultation for student athletes who are earning money off of NIL. That will become a part of their marketing pitch to prospective student athletes.
