So 7spots' drunken post about his brush with a not-so-famous person makes me wonder...

What stories you fellow lungers got about drinking with or hanging with a non-celebrity celebrity? This could be anyone that would be mentioned on something like Wikipedia but probably isn't known by anyone other than a few family members. Or if you're big timing us, I would gladly accept some real stories about hanging with some actual famous people. What you got?

in Clemson. Wal-mart had a special on cases for $8 and we had about 2 pallets full plus a gin bucket. 3 members of the bakketball team came. One of which still plays in the NBA, the other 2 were initialed DP and JM. I shook JM hand and he made me feel like a baby. I would hate to get dicked down by him. Later that night I was dancing all up on his ex GF that had just broken up with him recently.

I once flew to LA on a plane next to Mark Slaughter, lead singer of 80's hair-band Slaughter. He was a cool guy, we talked the entire flight. He was very politically conservative, which was very surprising.
I got tons of them. Anybody who flies or hangs around in airports should have a bunch. Plus I used to live in Nashville, so I saw celebrities dang near every day. I didn't know half of them until somebody said something, because I don't follow country music much. I would just be talking to them like regular people, which I think they liked. I did that with Delbert McClinton one time. Just sitting there chit chatting with him about whatever was on TV at a mostly empty diner, somebody came up and said "Hey Delbert, can I get an autograph?". Duh, me.

The year was 1993, a disappointing year for Ken Hatfield
Apr 28, 2017, 3:52 PM
|
|
as it was his last at Clemson. Doubly disappointing for Richard Moncrief as he was moved from QB to WR for his last season. A somewhat sleepy season was redeemed with a 16-13 win over the SCARcocks in Cootlumbia.
A fresh-faced MauldinT, after driving back, decided it was a day to celebrate. Hit TTT and it being Saturday night, headed to the Genoa Club where I ran into a young Jewish lass whom I was trying to bed. I was in full-on dance machine mode, no doubt impressing this young lady with the dopest moves busted by a white male. When I heard her exclaim "OH MY GOD !"
Turned around, was, what I would call, a turnt Richard Moncrief who was putting my dancing to shame. He asked me "MauldinT, can I dance with your lady friend ?" "Of course Mr. Moncrief, you kick the ##### ### today."
I went home and rubbed one out

They'd let kid teams play one another during halftime of Clemson basketball games? I was one of those kids and I balled out scoring like 10-12 points in that short time. So in a way, you've all been talking to a non-celebrity celebrity for years and didn't even know it.

I was all set to go see Tinsley in Tampa a couple of weeks

ago, but we couldn't make it happen. Damon Fowler was opening, which would have been a great double bill. Don't feel too bad about Tinsley not remembering you, the couple of times I crossed paths with him long after the Edgar's days, he didn't remember me either.

I've told this story before, but I was at the Tower of London

on vacation with my family, and we had bought tickets for the tour of the Tower and the Crown Jewels. We were out on the grounds waiting for our tour start time, and I remarked that it was kind of a shame that there was a McDonald's right adjacent to the Tower of London, even though it was a smaller kiosk type. Everyone looked, and I saw a tall guy with his family waiting in line to order. He turned around and it was Harold Ramis. No one else in my group recognized him. I said, "Hey, that's Harold Ramis!" My English friends didn't know who he was, either.
So, I figured I would just go over, step into line behind him, and speak. When I got there, I realized that I wasn't sure about what to say. So I just blurted out, "Is it easier for you to be unnoticed in England?"
He didn't miss a second, turning to me and saying, "Until now." I laughed and said that I didn't want to trouble him, no autographs or anything, just wanted to say hello and be on my way. He introduced me to his wife and kids, and they were very nice, and he noted that I had a Southern accent, and asked where I was from. I told him South Carolina, and he asked me if I knew Andie McDowell. I said, no she was from Gaffney, but that I worked with a couple of people who knew her.
They were on the tour ahead of us, so we kept seeing them at different stops in the Tower. He was as nice as anyone could be, and I felt a twinge of sadness when he died a couple of years back.

Freshman year at Clemson, I was at a pimps and hoes party...

It was thrown annually by the rowing team, and a bunch of athletes would always be there. It also tended to be the same weekend as the football banquet, so sometimes a few football recruits would show up. I remember a guy who ended up going to FSU to play WR was there- Rod Owens. But the more memorable moment was standing in a corner drinking a beer with Charlie Whitehurst, who'd just finished off mowing down Tennessee in the Peach Bowl. He seemed like a pretty quiet guy, but I remember saying something stupid like "wouldn't it be great if these girls always dressed like this?" Charlie, in his laconic way, just said, "yeah."
Also, I had a few beers with some famous French philosophers a few times. One was Remi Brague, the other one was Jean-Luc Marion. Both have pretty good sized wikipedia pages, and I nerded out hard. Was kinda surprised two old guys named Remi and Jean-Luc were into beer.
My friend's mom is Kathleen Parker, and she won the Pulitzer for Commentary in 2010. Hung out with him over at her place in Georgetown a few times. They're from Camden, so some of you may know of the family.
When I was in 5th grade, my family and I were touring the Capitol and ran into Strom Thurmond who was lost. He asked my dad where the bathroom was.
Oh, and I used to work for Congress, so I was around lots of people with pretty extensive Wikipedia pages. Not sure I want to call politicians "celebrities," though (despite the status of the last two presidents). At one point, I was drinking with my boss- Jon Runyan, who at one point was the highest paid OL in the NFL- and a few other Congressmen, including Ben Quayle (son of Dan Quayle). When I was an intern, sometimes I would help Paul Ryan's office give tours of the Capitol, so I would run into him a good bit. Really impressive guy, but was a backbencher at the time. Jessie Helms also used to go to my church at home in Alexandria.

I was at a BBQ in Arlington with my loser roommate who I moved in with after college. He'd been laid off from his job, so he started promoting parties at clubs, which basically meant doing a bunch of blow and selling bottle service/tables to other people who did a bunch of blow. Anyway, sometimes I would join him when he was doing something that didn't involve clubs or blow, and this bbq was one of those things.
So we're hanging out with a few of the people we know, and there are a few other groups of friends there who we didn't know. We see this guy pull up in a nice Benz, and he walks up to one of the other groups and starts hanging out. People start getting friendlier after the drinks start flowing- as they'll do- and we end up talking to the guy who'd rolled up in the Benz. Nice guy, but he says he's a vegetarian, which we all thought was unusual. He also wasn't really drinking much.
About 30 minutes later, we're outside and he walks back out to his car. We asked why he was leaving so early, and he told us he was going to a concert. We asked who he was going to see, and he said that he was actually in the group. Of course we all thought it was going to be some amateur thing we'd never heard of, so we were surprised when he told us he was "in this group called the Wu-Tang Clan."
Turns out he was one of the lesser-known emcees who went by Allah Mathematics.

Not going to even mention Clemson related stuff.
Did brews & shots with some guy named Dickie Betts a few months ago.
Talked to George Takei aka Sulu at The Hilton Times Sq.
Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow at Addy's one night in Gville
Capt Crash many times in downtown Gville
Brews with Greg Koch (Stone), Adam Avery (doh) & Hildegard van Ostaden (Urthel)
But the best was a youngster having breakfast by chance with Henry Aaron and Willie Stargell.

Roy Jones Jr and his posse. All cool guys. They took a while taking off all their jewelry to go through the metal detector.
Said hi to Slash in the Atlanta airport. His surgically enhanced lady friend was very attractive.
Had my hair cut right sitting next to Matt Wieters in Baltimore, he was in there with all his boys. Great kids.
