Biggest Clemson talent disappointments?
Nov 2, 2021, 9:01 AM
|
|
There's a certain player or two currently not living up to expectations, but let's look back. Historically, who's had the biggest gap between expectations and results? I leave some of the low hanging fruit for you guys, but here are a couple more obscure special teams letdowns that I recall.
-Greg Colquitt - Cousin of Dustin Colquitt, who was one of the greatest punters I've ever seen at Tennessee, and is going on about 17 years in the NFL, currently with the Falcons. Walked on in 2011 and was redshirted. Tore his hip labrum and quit football in 2012.
-Richard Jackson - I remember this kid being hailed as the next Gardocki coming out of Riverside HS, where he had kicked a 64 yard FG in a game. Turned into a head case though.....poor work ethic both on the field and in the class gave him some woeful inaccuracy (although he did make 6 FG's in a game against BC) and had him sitting for a season with academic ineligibility. Ultimately lost starting spot to Spencer Benton.

so much go from GREAT to bad for him in a VERY short time.
Got paid alot of money Went to Clemson and played really well at first. Broke hand celebrating during a game. Rehabbed and went to spring training. Friends died in car accident coming to see him play in Florida. I think some homelife stuff happened after that. Never regained his form in either sport.

Prior to this year I would have had Xavier Thomas on the list. But good grief he has unleashed all his potential this year. I hope he gets paid. I would include KJ Henry though. Solid player but was our #9 all time recruit per 247. Clemson's #7 all time recruit is our current quarterback. So, yeah....he is on the list.
Good call on Richard Jackson. He was supposed to be the end of our kicking woes.
Bellamy is up there. Demarkus Bowman if we are including transfers. Maybe Jamie Harper?
Tavien Feaster had a fine career but never lived up to the hype. Not deserving of #28 imo.

I still have no clue how, based on his entire body of work at Clemson, that dude ended up with a respectable NFL career.

The league wasn't prepared for his "hit the hole, spin and push the pile 1 yard with your back" style. Even the pros take some time to adjust to something that revolutionary.

I may have shared this story before, but I got dunked on by Jamie Harper the in Fike. Everyone stood up like “oh my god he just killed that scrawny white kid.” And it’s still my proudest athletic moment.

He’s playing better, but got fatter than holyhell and lazy AF last year. We’ll see where he shakes out, but I sure wouldn’t draft him without at least one more season of good ball in college

Often quit looking after the first page of replies to the OP. But the biggest Clemson talent disappointment has to be Dabo Swinney. He had so much before him and he chose righteous success as an instagram storyline. He’s sad and pitiful. And so are the thousands of fans who don’t recognize that he’s run his course.
