duties as governor. I still remember the repeated "this is a 1,000 year flood" on Sunday morning when the midlands was washing away and thinking to myself that the forecasters had been calling the torrential rain and catastrophe for days in advance.
She wised up for Matthew, but as someone that has seen little good come from her own political agenda, I won't miss her one bit. And there is more observed on a personal level (that I won't share) that won't change my mind about her.
How soon can we get her up to New York?

What was she supposed to do about the 1000 year storm?
Nov 23, 2016, 9:31 AM
[ in reply to Hope she prepares better in that job than she did for... ] |
|
Certainly she wasn't perfect, but she did butt heads with the "good ole boys" in the legislature where all of the real power in this state lies......and good for her. Her job wasn't to help Clemson or South Carolina in the ways many people thought, but to treat them fairly within her fraqmework of power. I think she did that......others can disagree.

Yeah I'm willing to cut her some slack re: the flood

The primary reason things were so bad in Columbia/the midlands was that several dams burst that should not have. I'm from Columbia and it's hard for me to lay that blame on her.

I agree with you that her job is not to favor Clemson but she tried to severely cut the Public Service and Agriculture budget, which, although it is a Clemson University program, benefits ALL South Carolinians. Fortunately, the legislature overrode those vetoes. I guess I thought a Clemson grad, more than others, would/should recognize the value to our state of PSA.

Most people in SC are related to people depending on government checks. I don't get a government check. So go preach to all your family members who benefit from public assistance.

Look at public colleges. Haley put a restriction on universities building new facilities if they increased student tituion to help pay for it. All of Clemson Univesity's building projects stopped, but they found private donations to finish them...
All people and business are dumb not to take the governments money, but it's also stupid to think anyone needs it. There is obviously extreme situations.

So that doesn't change the fact she grew up in area where most people were farmers or had limited economic opportunities. So facts ain't your strong suit.

It was intellectual dishonesty on your part..
Nov 23, 2016, 4:26 PM
|

My point wasn't the exact place she grew up, it was that the place she did grow up didn't have many economic opportunities for their residents. You knew that, that's why you tried to make it about the exact place she grew up to deflect my point that she turned her back on the very same people she grew up with. Only way I'm incorrect is if she grew up in a part of the state where the average resident does good, and those places are few and far between in SC. So you still didn't prove anything other than that I named one economically limited area of the state which is right next to the economically limited area you pointed out.

it means more?
She never had any involvement in government while she lived in what you describe as an "economically limited area". So while her family made plenty of money at their business in BAMBERG, she had no political reason to take notice of the plight around her.
It wasn't until she got to Lexington that she became involved in politics, so I guess now you are going to say Lexington = Barnwell.
So go ahead and continue making stupid comments... we're all too familiar with them around here.

the tactic of claiming I stated something I didn't won't work on me...
Nov 23, 2016, 6:46 PM
|
|
I stated nothing about when and where she got into politics. I was talking about the area and people she grew up around. If she was limited to just being around her family she would have an Indian accent instead of the southern accent she got from living in Barnwell and Orangeburg. Once again you are using a tactic to change the subject away from my point. But I'm used to intellectual dishonesty from you.
Give it up you're not going to be able to disprove she grew up in an area where the average resident has limited economic opportunities.
PS as Governor of the State you are supposed to put the best interests of all the residents first, instead of worrying about which out of state fat cat is going to further your political career.

This is The Donalds way of keeping her quiet as he tries to get what he wants done accomplished. On top of that when he gets ready to run for reelection those that work for him have to keep quiet or risk embarrassment being shown the door.
Same thing with Mitt Romney as Sec of State.

Nov 23, 2016, 11:39 AM

as she used this state as a stepping stone for her personal ambitions. She tried to deny the backbone of this state, farmers, relief when their crops and fields were destroyed by historical flooding. Not too mention the state of our State's infrastructure got incredibly worse under her watch while she refused to do anything about road improvement. Every chance she has had she stuck it to those without. Not too mention the DSS scandal where children died in DSS care. I'm glad to see her gone, but it will take SC a longtime to recover from the damage she has done to this state.

Nixon created food stamps and the EPA. Eisenhower built the interstate system. Sorry but being conservative doesn't mean you are completely against spending programs that benefit the people of this country. There is a long line of conservatives throughout US history that have supported spending programs. You're referring to libertarian thought, not conservative
