This was a weird story that I somehow missed when it happened

a little over 3 weeks ago. Two 20 year old girls were walking on Morrison downtown near the Ravenel ramps, and were struck by a guy in a pickup truck who fled the scene. Both likely killed upon impact, but not known for certain, and this ends up being a pretty critical part of the story when their bodies were found the next morning.
Wife was at her book club thing last week and one of the youngest in the group, daughter of another in the friend group, is engaged to a guy who works at Hall's downtown (how this story even got on my radar). This guy worked with 25 year old Max Gentilin, who left a party that night (or early morning), drove down Morrison about 30 minutes after these two girls were struck and killed, ran off the road in the same place (weird) and hit their presumably already-dead bodies. I mean...what?
I believe he was originally charged with vehicular manslaughter, and after the cops reviewed footage from cameras in the area, changed it to "leaving the scene of an accident causing death", which may be the same thing, dunno. I don't know if they'll be able to determine if the victims were already deceased
and if that would mean he'll be marginally less screwed, but he's still pretty royally screwed. That's just odd for two vehicles to run off the road in almost the exact same spot within half an hour of each other.

I mean, obvi dude was drunk or something I dunno. I suppose he was "lucky" they were already dead although not sure how you sort that out over video. And he shouldn't have left.
I do kinda wonder what happens here if found guilty.
