One very important thing about Cade

Dec 1, 2024, 9:05 PM

The story is still being written.

This kid has improved more at his position then ANY of us thought he would... He is clearly a great passer. Is he still learning? Sure...

But I honestly believe the best is STILL yet to come.

Stick around.

Great passers can hit a 5 yard slant

100 times out of 100.

He is not a great passer at this stage of his career.

He is a physically gifted young man that is sporadic with his accuracy. If he gets a legit QB trainer in the off-season, he's got a chance to be very good.

Than by all means find me a single NCAA QB who is perfect on the season for passes under 6 yards. Should be easy. I can already tell you the 2 top passers on the season only average about 80% in that range.

Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, and even Tajh Boyd were GREAT passers. Cade is just not yet. I don't know how that's even debatable. He could end up being great next year, but he's not there yet.

That is ridiculous. No one is 100% on 5 yard slants.

Watson threw 17 ints his last year, there's no perfect passer. Playcalling can't go soft with a 7 point lead, let the kid redeem himself before there's only 1:08 left on the clock. You and many other ignorant fans blame Cade for everything when the kid has carried the offense this year. UGA his wrs killed him, Louisville again a ton of drops and bad playcalling, SCAR too much Mafah not enough throwing the ball when it was working.

Oh please. Poor little Cade it’s never his fault,it’s everyone else’s…spare me. Cade is much improved from last year, but he still makes boneheaded decisions inexplicably and misses too many reads. He’s not great passer at the moment. Btw you seem fond of trying to compare him to DW4 so let me enlighten you. The difference is while DW4 was prone to boneheaded ints,he was also liable to answer said ints with 4-5 touchdowns any time, any place. Cade has yet to prove he can do so against meaningful competition while DW made a habit of dismantling blue bloods so knock it off trying to compare a candle to the Sun.

That wasn’t what you said. You said great passers hit 100% of 5 yard slants. The two best in this year’s class can’t do that.

Dec 1, 2024, 10:26 PM [ in reply to Re: Great passers can hit a 5 yard slant ]

Good perspective.

Slant routes, while short, must be thrown very quickly … no hesitation … and accurately with no arc. Opposing D-lineman can silly knock them down -or- partially obscure a not-super-tall QB’s vision of the fast-developing slant route. The pass block8ng scheme needs to take into count the need to push the D-linemen out of the way so that the slant route can be successfully thrown.

All that said, it sure looked to me l8ke CK2 whiffed on that slant pass to Wesco.

This is an area where we all hope CK2 masters for the 2025 season.

He threw it high bc he wanted to get it out bc he saw the TD. There was defenders at his feet too. Yall are being unrealistic expecting every pass to be perfect and go for 15+.

Correct. Wesco catches that in stride and we win the game

Why are we even throwing a 5 to 6 yard pass with 16 seconds to play? It should be close to the end zone to win the game. It was the wrong decision regardless, kick the field goal and go into overtime. Senseless.

Much improved but just doesn’t have that extra whatever that refuses to lose. Good serviceable quarterback. Can’t score against good defenses.

He clearly has the heart that refuses to lose but he doesn’t have the coaching staff that allows him to showcase what he’s capable of I’m not just talking about garret I’m talking about dabo too because whatever happened before that Louisville game clearly made them refuse to trust him unless they absolutes to.

He has a lot of talent and has improved considerably, but the game needs to slow down for him. We will need him next year given our poor recruiting class.

Bear in mind the following about the 2035 recruiting class:

The quality is excellent (eight 4* verbals per the Rivals standard) despite very few overall recruits.

Our biggest shortfall is in the DB area; DB numbers (at both S and CB) are the strongest unit on our team. Our top quality CBs are currently three, and we have two highly rated true FR CBs that redshirted. Same with Safety position. Our ‘headliner’ defections are both DBs. I don’t l8ke it, but I recognize that DB decommits are the ones that we can indeed afford to lose.

I’m with you.

CK2’s improvement between 2022 and 2023 became evident in late 2023, at which time he went from being a poor QB to a serviceable one.

His improvement between 2023 and early 2024 revealed a transformation between a serviceable QB to a legitimately good QB. Not great, by any means long shot. He will never be a NFL QB because his God didn’t bless him with fundamental arm strength. However, he can be a great college QB because truly deep out patterns are not necessary to be able to throw. He has proven that a deep out of ~ 50 yards (linear distance from the point of release to the point in the sideline where the pass reaches the WR), and do so with acceptable accuracy. Yesterday, he made two successful intermediate depth out route passes.

Will he make another comparable jump between 2024’s end and 2025’s beginn8ng? Maybe. If he does, then he won’t be the first college QB to not complete the transformation from good QB to excellent QB until his senior season.

I’m very glad that we have at least two more games against quality opponents for CK2 to further sharpen his game.

So far my only issue with him has been hitting the quick slant, because he missed some key ones this past weekend and has for a while. Idk why he loves throwing those 100mph rockets that sail to high.
