One of the reasons why Clemson is the #1 University

of the state of South Carolina!!!
Clemson University has become one of the country's top national public universities by combining the benefits of a major research university with a strong commitment to quality teaching and individual student success. Ranked 25th among all national public universities by U.S.News & World Report, Clemson consistently attracts top students. More than half of incoming students are in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class, and together they have an average grade point of 4.2. Clemson students are successful in and out of the classroom. They have both high freshman retention and graduation rates, and are ranked by The Princeton Review as being among the country's top 5 in terms of "happiest." Clemson students also have exceptional access to hands-on experience. U.S.News & World Report lists Clemson among the top 10 universities to produce the largest percentage of interns. A unique form of undergraduate research, known as Creative Inquiry, is a top priority here. More than 400 Creative Inquiry teams, made up of 3000 students, were active last year working on everything from designing new medical devices to monitoring cyber bullying to creating new water systems for people in impoverished countries. Clemson students benefit from one of the country's top career services programs. Ranked No. 5 in the nation by The Princeton Review, the Center for Career and Professional Development offers a full range of services to help students find job, internship and co-op opportunities. The Wall Street Journal's SmartMoney Magazine recognized the success of Clemson alumni when it named Clemson No. 7 among national universities, both public and private, in return on investment, a calculation based on graduates- lifetime earning potential and the cost of tuition. Located in a college-town, lakefront setting, Clemson is home to a 17,500-acre forest and a 295-acre botanical garden. Undergraduate enrollment is managed to ensure small classes and an 18-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio. Clemson's 20,000 students can select from 80 undergraduate and 110 graduate degree programs offered by five colleges: Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences; Architecture, Arts and Humanities; Business and Behavioral Science; Engineering and Science; and Health, Education and Human Development. For more information, go to clemson.edu, or call the Class of 1944 Visitors Center at 864-656-4789.
There is a lot more going on in (as y'all call it) the cow pasture. If it wasn't for your complete ignorants, you would call Clemson that great University in the up state. If you coots were able to read the article. You now know why we call your school, USUC University. I added the phone number just in case any of you wanted to be more than a gas station manager.

Although I understand your point and passion, Furman is unquestionably the top academic university in SC.

Simple fact: Furman is known both statewide and nationally as the best academic school in South Carolina. Not to take anything away from Clemson or USC, both fine public universities. Most people on this board understand that the choice of higher education should depend on major/area of study, not the football team.

Agree about serving a small, select group. It was designed to do that. That's the same reason that Davidson, not Duke, is the top academic school in NC. Furman has always been the top rated school in SC for freshman SAT ave., high school GPA, etc. Every high school guidance counselor in the state knows that Furman is where the top students want to go, excluding specialized majors, of course.

Actually, Furman doesn't even require the SAT anymore.

Like many smaller privates, they have struggled a bit keeping their admission standards high since the 2008 recession. People aren't as interested as they used to be in spending $40K / yr for a liberal arts education. Go figure.

Who gives #### what Furman is known for. Clemson is a prestigious public university now. And yes, you can deny it all you want, but US News rated Clemson as #1 for academics in the state of South Carolina.

Combine the U.S. News Report with the experience of top athletic programs in one of the most competitive conferences, (in all sports) a pedestrian friendly campus, little crime, opportunities to travel, friendly/family atmosphere. (that transcends the campus)

So, no. And Furman doesn't even factor in SAT anymore. People from Furman think it's the Harvard of SC, but it's not. Clemson>Furman any day

South Carolina is the state school and always will be. Notice the blue flag saturday. Its pitiful to put down either school for what they provide to students. USC is much bigger accepting more south carolina students. Your a sad individua

South Carolina will accept anyone with a pulse. It's a joke of a instituion of higher learning. You're not even in the top 50 of public universities.

South Carolina claims to be THE University of South Carolina.
However, (in terms of performance and accomplishment) Clemson attracts higher performing students and has accomplished more athletically.
Therefore, making the marketing effort a bit misleading...

Academically, THE University of South Carolina has some very good graduate programs. Their law school and school of international business are both well regarded.
However, Clemson has stronger undergraduate programs and has the only college of architecture in the state.
Clemson also has a much better engineering program, nursing, agriculture...

School is a JOKE! Until very recently it was in the 4th quartile of all law schools nationally. Now it is in the 3rd quartile, but still weak. Just about any law school you can think of is rated higher.

I've never had a reason to check out law school rankings, but I had always heard that South Carolina had a quality law school.
Oh well, then the academic comparisons are even worse for South Carolina.

You're right, I'm sure the unscrupulous and unethical methods used by Clemson when they submitted the rankings back in '09 have ceased today.

Coot can only react to simple solutions. It only works when they can use any year that will fit their target. It doesn't matter if the target is full of holes already... To them, it's the target they prefer to use. In some weird way to them, it fits their aim!!!
