Crusaders is offensive and points to a dark time in history where innocent people were harmed, which is still quite troubling for people today to the extent that safe spaces and adult coloring books aren't enough, so they changed to the much less offensive Beacons.

There are millions of Muslims in this country who aren’t wild about the Crusaders moniker, because of things like the burning of Jerusalem and the slaughter of everyone inside, or the time the Crusaders got bored on the way to the Holy Land and sacked Byzantium. Even many Christians aren’t wild about a moniker that hearkens to the darkest, most militant impulses of Catholicism. Muslims are so sensitive to the term that during the war with Iraq, we’ll known squishy liberal don rumsfeld—conservative hero who killed thousands of American soldiers by putting them in non-up armored numbers in the middle of an urban war (“you go to war with the army you’ve got”)—ended up apologizing for calling the war a crusade against evil, which it was, we just didn’t realize at the time that killing several hundred thousand Iraqi civilians in order to find a dozen old mustard gas shells in a field would not be viewed as positively as neo-cons envisioned it.
