The Holiday Bowl?

Nov 29, 2023, 9:29 AM

2 days after Christmas.
In San Diego.
Riley playing Riley.

The powers that be thought it would be a good idea to have east-coast fans fight post-holiday flight traffic, flying 8-9 hours (minimum) for a 3 hour game that NOT a playoff appearance?

If bowls are about raking in the extra money, then they have lost their minds.

Tell 'em 16-7 coot. No one knows losing better than you.

You are not exactly plagued with bowl problems, other than you are not going to one.

Are those all fake electors in that picture?

One positive is it will be an 8pm EST game on TV during a work week. Easier to watch if you have to work that week. Gator is a nooner on Friday.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ticket sales do not have nearly as much to do with bowl success as in the past.

Nowadays it is TV MONEY that drives the bus. Just look at the stands, on those rare occasions that bowls show them. They will be NO MORE than about two thirds full, even for some formerly upper tier bowls, now that a clear Playoff structure is in place.

And, let's face it, there are just far too many TOTALLY meaningless bowls now, that don't even HAVE any history.

:(

Nov 29, 2023, 10:12 AM

Exactly. Bowls want attendance and that is a factor, but the bigger picture is the bulk of the money comes from sponsorships and TV. Honestly, I want a bowl that's not at noon on a Friday so I can watch it live.

This is why they are considering So. Cal as opposed to Oregon State...

It's close enough to attract USC fans so ticket sales won't be a complete disaster.

That i understand - just "feels" like west coast teams rarely travel out to the east coast.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree, and frankly...

Nov 29, 2023, 10:29 AM

we don't need to be traveling to the left coast unless it's for a CFP or National Championship game.

Of course, the ACC adding Cal and Stanford will certainly change that.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

You seem to be under the illusion that ticket sales make the money

Nov 29, 2023, 9:53 AM

It's actually TV ratings.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IF its USC Ill be there. Ill skip Oregon St though.***

There are much worse places to go in December than San Diego

Nov 29, 2023, 11:55 AM

One of the better middle tier bowls for that reason alone.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Get a leg up on the rest of the ACC playing on the left cost

Nov 29, 2023, 11:59 AM

When Cal and Stanford join next year, possible recruiting advantage.
