OL recruiting question...

Apr 8, 2016, 7:34 AM

Is there any rhyme or reason as to why most (if not all) of our OL commits each year come in the earlier half of the class?

Get em before they sway. Big emphasis lately on getting OL commits on board, coaches can point to that for QBs and RBs that they are striving to get the road graders to protect and block.

idk, but some things jump out...

1. best chance of avoiding a redshirt by getting on campus and acclimated 6 months before summer report?
2. smarter than skill players[had to give props to those that protect the skill] so they're eligible for early enrollee?
3. a lot of the big boys only play football so the reasons to stay in hs are fewer?
4. hardest position to project is often the OL, so need might be greater - the position group is also one of the largest on the team in many cases?
5. i'd say as much as any position, the diet, conditioning, weight is paramount to get started right
6. and to tie some of those above together, the closer you are to the ball, the greater the adjustment to the college level

hyatt and fruh had to play last year - those extra months and spring practice had to pay huge dividends as an absolute need

Because offensive linemen are the smartest group on a football team, know what they want, enjoy and realize teamwork is important to them and gravitate towards like minds?
