That is a tough call as a coach. Clearly she is our best pitcher. Do you put someone out there against a team like Oklahoma and expect them to shut them down?

When Valerie went to play first base you could see how tired she was.

good as Cagle…we have 1 elite pitcher and 2 really good pitchers. We need an elite freshman pitcher or 2 to come in next year.

Agree with you. And to xtiger original post, I agree with that too. I know I'll get chewed on this comment because Rittman has done great things for the program. Right coach as I've posted before, right coach to get us up and running. But he isn't a good in game coach. He's sacrificed depth to win.
Rad- our freshman DP today should have hit early and often in the year, even if it meant we won games by 2 runs vs 8. This is just one example. The other, as you mentioned, exhausted Val. At the end of the day, a 40-17 record would have gotten us what we did anyway.
Tough call for coaches but look at what Bakich did, played a ton of people. Jojo started on fire and then he switched to oda? Why not rotate them... I'm not in the dugout or practice but why ally was kept in the 2 spot is beyond me. Yeah, she could slap and bunt against mercer or Furman but that's usually something reserved for a 8 or 9 hole hitter. In softball, every bat matters because you don't get many.
Great season. Learn from it and develop hitters that can hit a called ball to the opposite field.

Rad's not the answer. 17 K in 30 AB.

There weren't any good options, but I would have used Knowles. She hits 100 points higher and had half the strikouts.
How much could we have used Hannah Goodwin this year? She hit .359 at State and was their best hitter.
Rittman needs to use the portal and increase his recruit numbers. We signed players in year one that we wouldn't recruit today.
I think there are a lot of very good players would like to play here.

She was actually 18th in both IP and ERA, as of now.
That spreadsheet of Stats is a little wonky. She is 9th of the 50 names on p.1, then 7 on p.2 and 2 on p.3 also pitched more than her.
But it is undeniable that her workload exceeded everyone else’s in the country this year. When she wasn’t pitching she was playing 1st base. She only rode the pine during the times she got a pinch runner.
Contrast with FSU. Sander clock pitched as many innings as Val but was still fresh enough to throw a Perfecto at the Chickens. She appeared to be getting stronger as the season progressed, because the coach was developing Leonard and using Reid as her first option.
We’ll be better for this experience, so long as Val’s confidence is good.

Looked in game 1 that they had her figured out

Because she's pitched so many innings, there was lots to study on her. I think we've leaned too heavily on her. IMHO, one reason game 2 went so well was we had different pitchers and OU hadn't invested the film study as much on them. They knew who we'd lean on and that's where they put their efforts.
In retrospect, where hindsight is always 20/20, we should have let Spencer close it. I don't think they would've had the same success with her.
Cagle is an exceptional player, no doubt, but I can't help but feel that we put too much on her in the Super.
Regardless, though, every single person who stepped foot on that field for us Saturday left it all out there and left no doubt that we gave it our best. Very proud of their efforts and their season. An amazing team!

Will get to any pitcher if you give them time. McCubbin actually settled down after the first inning and got two straight 1-2-3 innings which can’t have happened very much to OU all season.
Also thought Thompson was shutting them down and we were maybe too quick to pull her after only allowing one single to start that inning.

The girl needs a break. She has been a work horse all season. Was feeling for her in the last game as she looked exhausted. I think that has to affect you mentally during a game.

Completing agree. Also consider the toughest loses this season were walk offs during the regular season at Liberty and VT. Those have to weigh on her no matter how mentally tough you are. We need another elite pitcher to get beyond the Super regional stage.

We are a young program and Coach Rittman will continue to recruit and develop that pitching rotation over time. He has done an amazing job in this short time so far.
Go Tigers!!!
