He’s not wrong. Super high ranking based off potential. We will find out soon enough.

Aren't all preseason rankings based off of potential?

That's what I was gonna say, also, anyone who is doubting us, their whole reason is off of last year. I guess there's no such thing as developing players. QB is perfect example. But when u have that much returning production, usually bodes well. Still have to prove it tho.

.... he could say the same thing about Ohio State, Texas, Penn State, Oregon, Bama, UGA or any other team ranked in the top 20.

It's August. Some teams will exceed expectations; some teams will meet expectations; some teams will fall short of expectations.

All he said was, "Clemson could fall short of expectations."

File under, "Duh!" If Clemson falls short he can claim he predicted it in August. If Clemson wins the national championship he can say, "I never said they wouldn't."

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly. Ohio State just named their starting QB yesterday.

I have no issues with his analysis. The Pitt game was a game we should have one and we did. As far as Scar goes - If we would have had a DC at the time that knew how to adjust correctly and kept SB in the game - who knows ? And an errant throw by Cade didn’t help. I never felt confident at all with WG , I feel 100% better with Tom Allen. The depth and experience factor we have this year is the best since 2019 . Just win and prove them all wrong.

I can't even disagree with him honestly. Even I'm kinda like "pump the brakes" on us. I think we will be great this year, playoff worthy definitely. But crowning us National Champs feels a bit much. We definitely can, I don't doubt that. I'm just thinking the hype is a byproduct of the entire landscape of football not having a definitive team(s) at the top to dominate the rankings this year. Everyone is a question mark for the most part, except for a very select few.

He is right on the coots though.

While I have all the confidence in the world for Clemson to have a great season, I cannot argue with BEAR's assessment. I believe that Clemson is favored so much because of the returning production and the fact that Clemson has high retention with respect to the portal. Clemson will enter the season with better cohesion and continuity from a team perspective, but by mid-season that advantage will vanish and Clemson will have to be focused on reaching new heights as a team. The development to reach their ceiling must be constant and by mid-season Clemson needs to peak and steam roll the rest of the schedule.

GO TIGERS!

I muse at the notion that because "they weren't even thought of as a playoff team last year until Miami blew a 21 pt lead at Syracuse".
As if talented teams can't turn a decent season into a great season the next. We return a bunch of starters , more than any other contender. We have great skill position talent. A strong OL and DL.
Fallica would do well to look at the history of some teams who had poor or average records one season and then turned it on and win the big prize the following year.
Like...oh I don't know.. the1980>1981 Clemson Tiger team. Think we won 6 games in the 79_80 campaign. Then turn around and run the table the very next year. And that's not as rare as one would think.

I agree with what he says. However, if all areas increase a little bit with leadership and experience that others do not benefit from (huge amount of returning starters) then it could be special

I love how out schedule is viewed as trash every year……so many think that we’re a good team that could make noise in the playoffs, but we have all these traps within our weak schedule……yet…..Texas has a kid starting for the first time at QB who has a 9:2 TD to INT and got rocked by their top team in UGA…..in a conference with team the media believes are the best in the land…… it Texas is going to the natty. Huh? Not to mention they lost a ton…..way more than us. Make it make sense.

You can play devil's advocate with any team in America right now.

Like I've said before, unlike years past 2025 has no clear cut team that everybody fears. It's literally wide open mainly because of so many familiar names at the top lacking a returning QB.

We have as good of a shot as anyone

How many of you have ever played a parlay card ?

There is a notable difference between picking the winner of a game and betting ATS , which is what the bear does.

Read ;

2024-25 Season Performance: According to Cole’s Gameday Blog, Fallica had a standout year, finishing the 2024-25 college football season with an 84-60-3 record ATS, yielding a profit of 16.28 units on sides and totals. Additionally, he profited 15.1 units over 85 moneyline picks, totaling 31.38 units of profit for the season. This performance earned him the title of the 2024-25 college football gambling champion on the blog. His ATS win percentage for the season was approximately 58.3% (84 wins out of 144 non-push picks), which is notably above the 52.4% break-even threshold required to overcome the standard -110 betting vig.

So, every team can be no better than what they were? Taken as an absolute, I can't imagine a more moronic take. Yes, there were problems last year that hopefully got corrected. Will those corrections require validating, yes, obviously. Admittedly, we couldn't tackle a school crossing guard last year, but I have hope that the hiring of Tom Allen will rectify that. In any case, the talent is undeniable so to base an assessment purely off of what happened last year under vastly different leadership personalities is just plain laughable.

Don't have faith, Bear. We will respectfully decline any reliance on you to determine our worth. Truth be told, your assessments on CGD barely broke even at 52%, so I feel sure that we will have peace with that position.

Go Tigers!!
