Ok this is strictly a question

Jun 3, 2019, 7:35 AM

I have no underlying agenda here. Could the coaches and staff members sons who are on scholarships just walk on and we could use those for other players? Asking this from a rules standpoint. I was thinking they could but when several of them arent then maybe I'm wrong about that or the rule changed. Again we're fine on players and it sure isnt hurting us. I'm just trying to clarify my understanding

Yes, the Swinneys are walk-ons.***

They aren’t on scholarship.

Jun 3, 2019, 7:40 AM

Just because a player commits, or is on the team, doesn’t mean he has a scholarship.

Not sure whether Clay will be or not. :)

Coaches do it every year a scholarship comes available...

Jun 3, 2019, 7:48 AM [ in reply to Re: They aren’t on scholarship.- I understand that but Will ]

that is no longer being used - unexpected transfers or people leaving the program.

Walk-ons are awarded for their efforts, Darien Rencher & Hall Morton were awarded in August '18 as well.

They earned them.

Here's an idea

Jun 3, 2019, 8:36 AM

Most fans should say GO TIGERS a lot more often than "I got an idea about how to make us better."
Most likely you are not the one in a million fan who actually has a new good idea that our highly compensated coaching staff has not considered fully. Devote your brain power to working on the debt or the libs or the alt right or the Chinese or the Riemann Hypothesis and leave Clemson football to get along just fine without your pet peeves, gripes and ideas about our program. Now is not the time for that silliness.

We pay Dabo almost $10M/year because he's the best football coach in America.
We just posted our 8th straight 10 win season."
We are 55-4 in the last four years.
We have won 4 straight ACC titles.
We have won 5 straight against our arch rival.
We have won 2 of the last 3 national championships.

I don't think any of us, even you all great couch coaches sound anything but stupid when you think you have a better idea than Dabo and his staff on how to do anything.

The sages this weekend who decided Tyler Venables can't play strike me as crazy stupid presumptuous wannabe know it alls.

The 53rd thread negative thread about our coaches' sons getting scholarships or making commitments is at best the 52nd wasted thread.

Yes, I know this is a foolish rant about an overworked topic, but I feel better now.

Someone defecate in your choice of cereal this morning? LOL

Jun 3, 2019, 10:59 AM

I didn't take it that the OP had a problem with them taking the scholarship. Seemed to me he was just asking if it is "legal" to ALLOW a coach's son that is really good to walk-on. I'm sure it is but it isn't THAT unreasonable to ask.

At our age it isn't good to get that upset, Harley. ;)

Didnt need or merit the jerk wad reply from you know who.

You take it any way you see fit, but it's Harley...

Jun 3, 2019, 11:25 AM

he's not the bad guy, never has been from my experience, just a long time poster frustrated by the constant questioning.

I don't believe he meant it personally, not towards you, '74, more aimed at the board in general.

My take anyway, not intended at all to tell you how to think or feel about it, just another view.

I took it how he said it. Completely irrelevant to what was asked.

No, it was directly relevant to a subject that's been...

broached ad nauseam.

versus asking a question pal

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's nothing wrong with asking questions that could help

Jun 3, 2019, 11:37 AM [ in reply to Here's an idea ]

The program. I trust the coaches but in my real world experience complacency can kill great organizations.

There's a lot of morons that tick me off on here but his question was respectful enough. even if germans.

culture.

There are good questions and sometimes pointed responses, considering the weight of the many, tiresome questions akin to the OP.

Harley doesn't need anyone to defend him, I just think it's a matter of weight and not personal.

Jun 3, 2019, 2:04 PM

...I was just over-reacting to the upmteenth thread related to the Venables, Swinney, Davis players getting schollies.

josephg, you had to reach way back for the Facenda reference. Appreciate it.

For the really old dogs.....Man, we never saw this coming did we? Dream big indeed.

Re: Here's an idea

Jun 3, 2019, 8:40 PM [ in reply to Here's an idea ]

Clearly your reading comprehension skills are severely lacking. The OP was simply trying to gain a better understanding of how members of the football team that are also coach’s sons are placed on the roster (i.e. scholarship, preferred walk-on, walk-on). I don’t understand why that people can’t simply ask questions to gain knowledge and understanding without some internet bully attacking them because they can’t comprehend the simple thirst for knowledge and a better understanding and only see questions asked as a sign that the person asking the question has a problem with how things are. Smh. Stupid coot

Preferred walkon . You are paying your own way..

Jun 3, 2019, 3:31 PM

But will have a spot on the team.

I think Chad Kelly was a preferred walkon... didn't need a scholie.

Not sure or Rodriquez was.

Chad Kelly was a highly recruited 4 star player

Jun 3, 2019, 8:32 PM

I do not think he was a walk on at Clemson.
