It could easily happen. It happens roughly half the time.
In January, 2029, do you think the hypothetical Dem actually takes office? If so, why? If not, why not?
For now, I am not assuming Trump tries an unconstitutional 3rd term. I'm talking about a JD Vance or a Marco Rubio or one of the Trump children, etc....losing to a Democrat of some sort, whomever that is.

Dem wins in 2028:
Creation of a federal ‘commission of digital truth’ to make anything communications that the government doesn’t like to be declared as “disinformation,” with those that commit such crimes being imprisoned in Fulton County, GA’s prison. Or Riker’s Island.
High rate capital gains taxes on unrealized capital gains. This capital gains tax would apply to both liquid assets and illiquid assets (such as farmland and homes of the rich … with ‘rich’ being determined however the federal govt defines rich at any given moment). If the owner if the land does not have the money to pay the taxes, then the government seizes that land, sells it to China, and whatever untamable proceeds remain get returned to the landowner.
Formal / official classification of American Christians and registered Republicans as domestic terrorists. This administration is already trying to punish people for their speech and beliefs, and you're out here whining that this will happen:

Capitol Building, that wouldn't have changed the fact that Biden won the election. I haven't allowed myself to slide far enough down the slippery slope to imagine that the US military would ever be involved in an overthrow of the government - which is what it would take.
So...that's why I say "yes".

which would have thrown the election over to the House, where the Republicans had an advantage in the # of states where they are the majority. That was the goal, not a military takeover.
I hope you're right, btw. I'm unsure myself of what happens in early 2029 if McDemerton wins in Nov 2028.

But only in democrat heavy metro areas. Also Trump is gonna try to get rid of all mail in voting. So, left unchecked donny will try to steal the election in 2028.
A large part of what donny is doing is laying the groundwork for intimidating minority voters in order to suppress turnout for the midterms and in 2028

When state governors and state AGs start trying to remove the leading political opposition's candidate from the ballot, get back to me.

Trump failed in 2021. But he learned from it. And his party is more uniformly behind him this time around, at the national, state, and local levels. This entire Trump 2.0 is more of a prepared machine than the first time around.
Anyway, I hope you're right, and McDemerton is sworn in.
