but you can't have ballots counted after elections are over.
Which means they have to be counted...before elections are over?

There's no reason to be counting early votes AFTER election day.

then you count them until they're all counted, even if it's after election day. This isn't hard, unless you're just not interested in free and fair elections (which the GOP clearly isn't, at this point).

Why wouldn’t the GOP want votes counted after Election Day? How does that benefit them? Is it only democrat ballots being counted after Election Day? I’m confused as to why the GOP would want that and how it would help them.

It's mail in votes.

They tend to swing heavily towards dems which is why a lot of GOP legislatures have made laws to not start counting mail in votes until polls close. This is similar to the "where did this giant batch of Democrat votes at 8pm come from?" line of thinking. Probably big cities too what with it taking longer to count lots of votes and all.

Ah, ok yeah that makes sense. It’s interesting that the majority of mail in votes are democrat.Anyway if the ballot was cast or mailed in before Election Day I think it should be counted.

You're discussing absentee voting.
Mail-in voting is allowed in some states regardless of your situation. Nevada is one.
Why don't you want every vote to count? And try to inform yourself on this stuff before commenting.

I shouldn't have to say this, but you have a constitutional right to vote. If you legally cast your vote, it has to be counted. It would be unconstitutional for someone to say "sorry, we didn't count it in time so better luck next time."

And for that reason, any law cutting off the counting of votes is going to be subjected to strict scrutiny by the courts.

Which court, though? The one that Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh are on? They'd cheerfully rule that the voting machines get unplugged at 7:01pm. Because, of you know, textualism and all.

Well yeah, ultimately them. They should apply strict scrutiny, and then the question is what's the compelling governmental interest that overrides a person's right to vote?
This will depend on the facts of the case. If we're talking about not letting votes count when they're postmarked on Election Day, that seems crazy. If it's about counting votes postmarked after Election Day, I'd probably be in favor of invalidating that law as well.

In 1960 Richard Nixon carried California … days (weeks?) after Election Day. It was legally cast ballots that were mailed from overseas that were received after Election Day that put him in the winner’s column.
No problem then …no problem now. No problem.

We need to go back to 1 day voting, all paper ballots, all votes counted that night, opposing observers always allowed to watch the counting.

Then election day is a PAID holiday, and polling places are made more available in large population centers (no more waiting and missed work that largely effects poorer neighborhoods).
Study after study has shown no large scale problems with how our elections turn out. But I'm up for talking changes as long as the changes aren't at the sake of one marginalized group or another.

I'm saying it's pretty obvious that it's harder for some folks to make it to the polls than others. And if we're gonna try a "only vote on this day" sort of thing then we dang well better remove the impediments in place.
With that said I think this whole idea is a solution in search of a problem. Study after study has shown our voting to be secure and no large scale problems with the outcomes.

Why is there such a strong push by one side to limit voting based on "security" when studies and reality show there's no standing there? We just had one of the more open elections in 2020 which showed how ridiculous the push for "tighter" election rules is and leads to absurd claims like "the election was "stolen."

Good Lawd, try to inform yourself.
They're talking about ballots that are received after Election Day but are postmarked THAT day.
Which means they aren't late. And this is legal in Nevada.
You just don't want everyone's vote counted. Quit advocating for election cheating.
"Under current Nevada law, mail-in ballots received up to four days after Election Day can be counted if they are postmarked before the end that day."

Isn’t that how these things work?
Now do the DNC lobby to have the dates removed from PA ballots altogether.
