I will say this. WIth it being the first game of the year it does worry me slightly. I go back to Troy last year. We played terrible in the first half. To the point that I was wanting Boyd benched. Then in the 2nd they turned it on.
If we come out like that against Auburn we might not be so lucky.
With that said I will say we win 38-17

Sure, he looked bad. Sometimes to bring out the best in a player you have to let them know that they can sit just like anyone else. He came out in 2nd half and tore it up.
My thinking didnt make me less of a believer or Tiger Fan. Thats just how I felt at that time.

how many times have manning, brady, rodgers, etc been benched because they were having an off game?
i'm not saying boyd is on the same level as them of course, but the point is you have to give players time. it was a brand new offense, and the team was his for the first time. if he had gone 1-15 with -5 yds passing in the first half i wouldn't want him benched. benching your starting qb after one half of the first game of the season does NOT send the message you're talking about. all that would do is destroy his confidence, and everything he worked for in the offseason.
and he did come out much better in the second half, even though he didn't sit. imagine that?
i realize we're talking about hypotheticals here, but I really can't stand it when people have such knee-jerk reactions to players and coaches.

i was with ya till the 1-15, -5 yds. stat line. after the spring game, and with the stats presented, i would have had to call on stoudt, who would also be playing his 1st game in the system, and in d-1.

If we manage to beat AU, it'll be closer than we want it to be. Probably 3-7 points diff.
I'm guessing we might win 31-27. If AU scores more than 31, then I expect AU to win it. Good lawd y'all, I am hoping we don't get behind 14 points before we wake up.
We aren't that good, and AU isn't that bad.

I see a much improved defense this year. I know we don't have the experience on the line but I think BV is a good DC and he will use players who wants to play and play hard. I think we will see better tackling and the scheme will not be a hard as it was with Steele. So saying that I see "our" Tigers winning 45-10. By the way I think our OL will be better than expected also. Lets not forget these linemen have already been in the Chad Morris system for a year now although they dont have the experience I think they will be stronger and have more knowledge about the blocking assigments. Go Tiger!!!!

AU still won 8 games and killed UVA. They have also said they are going back to a smashmouth power I type approach. Our guys better be ready to match it.

in that unit than I do the OL. Until I see 'em play and they prove me wrong, anyway. Our LBs should play a lot better this season. Between more depth/experience and the simpler scheme, I expect the LBs to be a lot more effective. I'm more concerned with our ability to score than our ability to keep Allbarn around 21 points.

game i just see too many blown assignments by AUs secondary leading to way too many big plays for us. Too much can be thrown at them to be able to account for being a first game.

This would play in our favor. We struggled with the spread. When we played teams that ran pro-style offenses (ie. VT), we played well.

the Georgia Dome has been Tiger kryptonite for the last few times we've been there. With the first game jitters and unclear assignments on D (yes, I know KS is gone) thrown in the mix, I'll be glad to come out of there with a close victory.
I'll agree with the post above, 24-21, good guys.

and thus the game. Not as bad as 08 Bama game, but somewhat similar. I think our lines have alot of growing up to do and it will be our downfall in a 7-5 to 8-4 season.

we did not handle business in that area on either side last yr and team like AU being in the situation they are in (new oc and dc) and having the horses they have, will likely make this their main focus. sets up ap alot like BAma 08 with them coming off a 7-6 yr with a loss to La Monroe. Who knew they had anything to be concerned about? not me

We have a reason to be nervous. We might not have Sammy, Auburn has a lot of potential this season and in recent years Auburn has been incredible in the dome with a 3-0 record and out scoring opponents 122-61. I would predict a 27-17 victory at best for us.

Auburn-24, Clemson-10 (I'm actually being charitable) and Sammy don't matter. He is a good receiver, but vastly overrated by Clemson fans, and didn't show up down the stretch last year against the 'smash mouth' teams. However, Clemson will do OK after being schooled at the War Eagle clinic until you hit FSU (no way to win there), GT(annual beatdown), VT (payback like us), and SC (getting to be a habit). 8-4 regular season with minor bowl win to finish 9-4.

I am not surprised at seeing some one-sided predictions (after all, this is a Clemson forum)but anyone who thinks you are going to blow us out is either delusional or knows nothing about AU football. (I recommend auburneagle.com if you are interested.)
AU will be MUCH better than most are predicting this year. Our apparent strength will be the defensive line, but we also have an experienced OL returning and a full stable of very good backs. Returning to a more traditional AU style (hard nosed defense and power running) will not help Clemson. Plus, we have a very promising dual threat QB in Frazier.
Congratulations on your recruiting class, but don't forget AU is enjoying their 3rd such class in a row.
I expect a close, relatively low scoring game that will be a toss-up. It's a tough opener for both teams.
And I sincerely hope Sammy Watkins plays.

No team that wants to be the best wants to play any of their competition unless they themselves are at their best.
I believe Auburn wants to play every team they play when the competition is at its best. It makes the players all around better for both teams when this occurs.
