Odds that Feaster Gets 28?
Jul 1, 2016, 3:32 PM

I know #28 isn't officially retired, but it hasn't been issued to anyone since CJ was here, to my knowledge. With Fuller signing off on Deshaun being issued his retired number, I'm curious what y'all think. I think if anyone gets that number Dabo will make sure it's the top All-Purpose RB in the nation, and the guy who is probably the fastest running back we've had since Spiller himself.

Interesting tweak to retired numbers. If you want to

wear a retired number at Clemson, maybe you have to write to the player who we retired it for and tell him why you plan to earn the honor while at school. Spiller might want only four-year players to wear his number, etc.

If they can get Spiller's blessing I think he'll wear it. Not sure if he'll have the patch like Deshaun has on his jersey

Well.. #28 was retired at halftime of the Maryland game in 2010. However, the Deshaun/Steve Fuller situation makes me think it would be a cool idea to bring the fastest number back out.

I don't low what # Feaster will end up with, but in my opinion 28 should not have been retired in the first place. CJ had a really good career here. Great? It's subjective. But even if it was great, let's put it on a level with other more recent guys. Was it better than Vic B.? Nuk? Sammy? Mac? Shaq? Not saying CJ didn't do a lot for us, but the jersey retirement process becones a very slippery slope eventually.

He broke 32 school records, 32.
Him and Davis also set the floodgates for us to begin signing premier players, picking us over a national contender Florida.
If you can't see the impact he had here and why his number was retired, I can't help you see why.

that you could throw more than 15 passes per game.
Still Charlie "Clipboard 'Coot Killer' Jesus" Whitehurst should at least get a statue.

I'm not saying he wasn't a difference maker at all. Dude was a darn good football player. Best ever to come through Clemson? Not in my opinion. I personally don't think he is even the best RB to play at CU, but then that is my opinion only. There have been a whole Lotta studs that have come through over the years and at ANY college, where they play at most 4 years, retiring a number is a huge deal. In the pros, a guy like say Walter Payton or Emmitt Smith that plays 10+ years, ok, you can do that. But it IS nice to have players worth arguing who is better, and who has made contributions.

To say CJ was 'just' a RB is pretty disingenuous. RB, kick returner, punt returner, wideout, leader....
Some of you should go to TigerRay's channel and pick any game from his Jr. or Sr. seasons and pretend he isn't in it and tell me how you think it would have gone. Those teams minus CJ might not make a bowl.

Yes it was better!! Vic did break records so maybe you can compare him but CJ is deff a great! In saying that Wayne Train has the record for rush yards in a season.

has been built. Dabo's first major recruiting win. The first 5* type player to show that you could go to Clemson and be a star. Then he stayed for four years.
Forget the stats and the records. Retired numbers should be few and far between. No player in the last 25 years has done as much as CJ to earn it.

If Feaster wants #28 he will get it. Especially since 28 was / is not eligible for 'retirement' at this time. Just my 2 cents...
