And what about yesterday’s performance is deserving of respect by the rest of the college football world? You have to earn the respect of others. Don’t think we did that yesterday.

Alabama would never have been dropped as long as THEY won. I hope Clemson rips the heads off of every opponent from here on out. This is horseshiite...

Exactly! I agree with the drop. We are not the #1 team right now. Like Dabo says, we gotta learn from it and get better but to say we should not drop because of 15 games before this season isn’t realistic. Polls don’t count until November. We gotta keep getting better.

What we done last year don't count for 1/100th of a point for this years team, this is a new team that don't and should not get any credit from what last years team done, and that's the name of that tune with every team!!!

based primarily on 20 games in a row dating back to last year? Through five games, Alabama, OSU, and Georgia look better. Gee whiz, it's not a personal insult that someone things we're not always the best.

Yes it is, and if you don't take it personal you probably think Gamecocks winning is good for the state.

Yeah that's pretty lame. Your argument sucks so now I'm a gamecock. Get a grip. Herbie sent his boys to Clemson, and yet, we are to assume that dropping us is a personal insult. Is your IQ even a positive number?

OVER-REACTION
Sep 29, 2019, 12:39 PM

Man,
it's like some folks forget that some weeks teams have less than stellar performances...the ONLY team I can remember in recent memory that appeared to have gone through the season unscathed and actually blowing out opponents was 'Bama last year - and we all know how that turned out in January of 2019
I mean, I GUESS we need something to talk about during the season if we're not covering the spread - I mean, people are READY to throw out that C-term for derogatory reasons rather than what we've come to know it as lately: winning big games and championships!
Overall, I'm not delusional - I do think that team performances like last night would result in an L at some point if they cannot get consistent on offense.
For now though...win is a win and if Clemson handles its business they are going to the playoffs.

Well said. No one wins a natty in September. Heisman yes but not a natty.
Nebraska was way over hyped. Tarholes would beat a lot of teams yesterday. I'm certain they didn't game plan against app st. From day 1 macks had the Clemson game circled.

I think you’re wrong. If we win out, playing poorly on offense like we did yesterday we may get left out. Our marquee win is A&M and they aren’t looking very good themselves.

It's not the lowering of Clemson in the polls that's an overreaction, it's the reaction to that that's an overreaction. No one who's dropping Clemson is withdrawing all respect for us, they're simply assessing what they've seen thus far, relative to other teams. And frankly, what Clemson did on offense (or didn't do) yesterday in Chapel Hill was manifest to a lesser degree in other games this year - only this time, Clemson never really "woke up" later in the game (ala Syracuse after the slow start). It's not the end of the world that Clemson's offense sputters at times, but it's also not the end of the world that pundits notice and react accordingly. What are they supposed to do? Rank Clemson higher simply b/c we won the nat'l championship last year? Is it all that absurd to conclude that OSU and/or Bama look better through four games?

it's not about Clemson '19 vs. Clemson in past years. Rankings are all relative to other teams, no team, Clemson included deserves some presumption of keeping their place unless they undershoot their prior year's stats. And there's no guarantee that this year will pan out as other years have either - I hope it does, but those ranking teams are under no obligation to make such assumptions.

Obviously Herbie does not respect UNC
Sep 29, 2019, 1:08 PM
|
|
He bases everything off the idea that all the mid tier and up SEC teams are great. UNC has lost to 3 unbeaten teams. Who knows, maybe they’re good. He thinks Florida is good. Florida who barely escaped that Kentucky team I saw last night. Florida who struggled with the same Miami team that UNC also beat. Last year he was so enamored of Bama he ridiculously argued UGA should get in CFP with 2 losses because they played Bama close. This is the SEC math.

As a professional sportscaster, Herbie has long buried any homer bias. Remember, he had to get out of Columbus and move to Nashville in order to escape the wrath of his own home fans. He provides better unbiased analysis than just about anyone.
Maybe this team has yet to earn respect.

You're right, and I truly don't understand why anybody could have a problem with the ranking, #2 is really stretching it for the team I saw play yesterday. I cross my heart and hope to die before I could honestly say that I saw a #2 team play against UNCheat, and if it had of been Bama or who ever is in the top 5, we would be screaming that they don't belong in the top 5!!!
