Just found this site. Here are a few schools and the number of players they have in the portal.
Michigan - 1
Washington - 1
Texas - 6
Bama - 4
FSU - 11
UGA - 10
Ohio State - 14
Oregon - 6

Make the playoff...keep the players. Unfortunately, the other games are considered far less important.

Where did you find these stats?
Go to your browser, type in 247 transfer portal 2024, and open it. Select school and you can choose a conference and the school. All the players officially in the portal will come up.

The playoff teams will have their number of portal players go up once they are done playing...

Players can't transfer from the CFP teams if they want their rings whether starters or not.

It's so hard to make heads or tails of this kind of data. On the surface it looks like it doesn't matter how prestigious your program is, everyone is losing people to the portal. I think the most important question to ask is, what is the reason the player is entering the portal and what is the quality of the player leaving your program?

I came up with these reasons, though I'm sure there are more:
1. $$$$$$$$
2. Coach is leaving.
3. Can't get along with coach.
4. Far down the depth chart.
5. Too far from home.
6. Guilty of some sort of violation.
7. ??????

6. Starter that's being replaced by incoming transfer / recruit (Ohio State QB)
7. Kid that just wants to move up and play for a bigger program. NIL money may be a factor, but not the only factor (the kid we are recruiting from MTSU)
I think a lot of fans want to put all of these guys in category #1, but quite a few are probably in category #7.

Some of this gets resolved next year with 12 playoff teams, but that still leaves 120+ teams that will probably lose a good many players.

For us, two of those only kind of count too.
All accounts are that Mukumba was going to go pro after the season anyways but he didn't get bill.
Mitchell Mayes just wrapped up his 4th season playing and is only able to continue b.c of coivd.
Pretty good roster retention overall.

Also: The numbers show that about 50% of the kids in the portal (all sports) never get picked up by a new school.
