We deserve an apology

The players, the donors, the fans, everyone. Dabo needs to be the big man everyone thinks he is and come right out and say he was wrong. Anything short of this is just perpetual gaslighting and a blatant lie, which I'm sure he already knows, but maybe actually believes his own hype at this point. Take ownership.

I'll let it go when we get some straight talk.
Here are some of Dabo's favorite mottos for the program:
Best is the standard.
Best player plays.
Accountability.
Are they empty sayings or are they supposed to mean something ?? Kids often don't listen to adults but they always watch what they do. Step up Dabo and tell the truth about this situation. Then we can all move forward.

Not sure an apology, but a real explanation
Dec 5, 2022, 12:41 PM
|

You know how sometimes you get that feeling you aren't being told the truth? I never got that with the program/Dabo before but with this QB situation there is OBVIOUSLY something we don't know and I've got that bad taste in my mouth we aren't being given the straight scoops.
Its not arguable so don't try people. Something stinks and we still don't know what exactly it is.

We aren’t getting the truth anytime soon, if ever. Dabo is protecting his team, and anyone that thinks that type of loyalty is a detriment to our program probably doesn’t know someone that’s gone through this process. To the majority of players, particularly ones with Clemson characteristics, that loyalty will go a lot further than a playoff berth come time for a home visit. And that’s the difference between Clemson consistency and teams that flash for a year.

I dunno man. I’m sure the home visit at Cade’s house featured all sorts of promises too. But now when the next 5 star qb is visited, his parents will know that the last guy got screwed because of the loyalty you’re celebrating. Why would they expect their kid to get a fair evaluation? They’d have to be really stupid to expect one. So why go to Clemson only to transfer a year later? What about receivers who want the best qb throwing to them? This experiment probably upended the careers of some guys. But nobody talks about that.
Looking at the way that team appeared to rejoice when the switch was made, I suspect this thing was festering pretty bad. I don’t want any apology, I just hope Dabo has learned a lesson.

Nobody got screwed. I am willing to bet my 401k Cade was told he will probably have to sit a year behind DJ and will be the man his second year. Cade knew that coming into Clemson.

If you read between the lines, it’s clear that the team also thought DJ was their best chance to win ball games. Only internet mavens had the brilliant idea that Cade should start day 1. When cade showed up under the lights, the team was very quick to accept him.

You are silly . We have arguably the most successful coach in the playoff era. Slight lean to Saban I guess , but factoring age I would take Dabo all day long. Comments like The players, the donors, the fans, everyone.
Your post : “Dabo needs to be the big man everyone thinks he is and come right out and say he was wrong.”
I am not sure of your age , but I am betting you are much younger than some of us baby boomers. Bunch of Marshmallows.

to admit what is obvious to all of us who aren’t in the Dabo cult. As much as I like and believe in him I KNOW something is wrong with this particular situation. It’s so obvious although there are a few idiots on tigernet that kept repeating during the season that Cade wasn’t ready and that’s why Prince Dabo continued starting DJ. Pretty much just took his word for it although what I saw on the field told me otherwise. Cade almost always looked more comfortable out there than DJ. Dabo makes way too much money for this kind of stuff.

We "deserve"honesty from the man we employ (Tens of millions of dollars) He is rich because of what donors fan and state taxpayers pay him to provide If he was doing this out of the goodness of his heart it would be one thing and I was a big Dabo fan but the last 2 years he has betrayed our trust and flat out lied to us My decades long IPTAY donation will depend on his attitude (class of 83 BTW and we won a Natty WITHOUT Dabo)

I think you making way too big of a deal about the South Carolina game. South Carolina didn't take their first lead until about 10 minutes left. Up until that point, the game had pretty much been going our way, and the big problem had been the fumble on the kick return.
Also, after what happened in the Notre Dame game, Dabo probably didn't want to put Klubnik into another situation where he was forced to throw in the shadow of his own goal line.
Could he have made a change? Sure. That said, think the South Carolina game is not the hill to die on. At that point, I think it was reasonable for Dabo to feel that Uiagalelei was the best option.

We don't "deserve" anything. Can you imagine the damage Dabo would do to that young man if he came out and did what you demand he do? People forget our football teams are still basically kids. He's 20 or 21 years old and still a college kid. DJ worked his tail off trying to get better and was proud to be a Clemson Tiger. He chose to come here to be part of our Clemson family. He put in extra hours way after everyone else left the field so he could get better. He wanted more than anything for the Clemson family to be proud of him. Unfortunately the next guy is a little better and he lost the starting job. Nothing good comes from crapping on the guy. Demanding an apology does not change one thing from the season. It doesnt change one L to a W but it could destroy a young mans heart knowing his coach publicly threw him under the bus. There are things more important than football. I wish DJ the best in his football future and would even welcome it if he stayed as the backup.

Let's make this about DJ then. If the coaches had recognized what we all saw for the past 2 seasons, expedited his benching and likely transfer to a program that suited him better, the quagmire of embarrassment and heartache you spelled out wouldn't exist. Instead, no hard decisions were made. Feckless 'leadership' that negatively affected DJ and his teammates.

Why in the heck should someone apologize for doing what they thought was right. Do you really think Dabo didn't play Cade in the SC game if he thought he could have won it? I might not agree with Dabo's conclusion that DJ gave us a better chance of winning, but for him to apologize (to us) for something he thought was right is ridiculous. 20-20 vision after the fact is useless and Dabo understands that looking back gets us nowhere.

He don’t owe me shizz. Probably things going on behind the scenes that we have not a clue. It is what it is, and that is done, so might as well move on. If it was an mis evaluation of Cade or a I’m hoping DJ can turn it around then hopefully the coaching staff can chalk it up to a learning opportunity for the future.

I fear we'll have to lean on faith in the absence of clarity
Dec 5, 2022, 3:07 PM
|
|
And honestly, I can do that.
As I said before, I just don't think we're going to get an admission from Dabo that would satisfy everyone here. I suspect it's because Dabo is not going to be comfortable standing up and saying that DJ was bad all year. Do we "deserve" it? Meh. We want it. It'd make us feel better. Dabo's not big on ripping on one of his players who did everything asked of him and fell short.
So, we'll have to lean on a bit of faith here. There's been a lot of comments about how Dabo has lost his humility...his ego wouldn't let him make a correction.
Maybe. I dunno. But I'm going to lean on the faith I've developed over watching this man coach and lead for nearly 15 years that he'll learn from whatever happened here and be better for it.

I've been and remain very critical of Dabo on all this. But even I wouldn't say he MUST apologize and/or admit he was wrong. I think he SHOULD. It would be ideal and admirable. But I don't think he **must** do so in order to sufficiently smooth things over.
Short of a direct mea culpa and apology, he could at least quit setting up straw men and perpetuating false characterizations of the critics. . . such as them supposedly not having appreciation for his accomplishments and Clemson's consistency, or not appreciating 10 win seasons or league titles, or expecting him to run his program at the whims of the fanbase at large, or them supposedly ever citing QB play as the lone culprit in the offensive struggles, or denying that other units were also playing subpar, or expecting that Clemson should win the CFP every year, and so forth. These were all dishonest characterizations - lies about the critics that were perpetuated to defend himself against criticisms he felt uncomfortable fielding in a straight-forward manner. If he stops doing that, then he could get away with there not being some specific "mea culpa" here.
I mean, truly, he doesn't have to do anything about, other than fix the problem. The news cycle will eventually roll over regardless of whether he does any of this or not. But, short of an outright "apology," I think he could earn a lot of respect back by ceasing the rhetorical spin game now and in the future. Tell the critics you disagree with them . . . and give them real, substantive reasons . . . OR NOT, if you don't want to. But by all means, don't make up false crap about them to make it look like they're saying stuff they're not saying.

Don’t be ridiculous. Have some perspective, for God’s sake. The team is Ranked #7 and Conference champions. That’s an excellent season. Saying you are “owed” an apology is saying you are an entitled, sell-important, spoiled ###.

??…..I’ll leave this here sense I know Dabo won’t do that. What makes you think he owes any of us an apology. If he’s doing way he believes is right that that’s something we have to accept or we need to get over ourselves…..especially when we’re 11-2……COOT!

Dabo owes no one an apology guys seriously?!?! I’ll be first to admit I’ve been just as pissed off as the next person past two seasons but hey we aren’t at the practices and the meetings and all and let’s face it, if it wasn’t for dabo we would t be the dominant program we are today…. As fans we are spoiled very much so and that’s because of dabo… yes very evident Cade is the better qb but it’s not like we finished 7-6… have faith in our coach and trust him… And let’s not forget how it was being a Clemson fan before dabo… only excitement we got was beating Carolina now we have won 7-8 ACC championships and 2 Nattys…. It’s ok to be upset I have been all year but let’s get behind our Tiger and support them…. Dabo is hands down greatest coach we have ever had…. No apology needed
