I'm as frustrated as the next fan by last night's performance, but anybody who know's anything about the game of football knew this team would stumble at some point.
That said, if this team wins out, we could have 5 or 6 wins over ranked opponents including a win over a most likely top 10 UNC team.
12-1 ACC champ Clemson could still get in the playoffs.

I don’t believe that playing UNC in the championship game in Charlotte is a sure win for Clemson!!!!
Their QB is everything DJ isn’t!
IF the Tigers had Maye in control of our offense we would definitely be in the top four To stay!

Ain't happening.
Those ranked-at-the-time opponents that we beat (with the possible exception of FSU) will be exposed in their second-tier bowl games as the mediocre teams that they are.
WF is a top 20, FSU is a top 20.
Syracuse; no. NC State; no. Will Louisville get in? Doubt it, unless they beat us.
Our SOS is looking worse and worse as our victories over 'ranked opponents' become victories over mirages.
No soup for you, and no CFP for Clemson this year.
We will nevertheless still end up with an excellent season, however.

A win over Louisville is not a given. They are playing very good right now and “you know who” isn’t! The home winning streak is on the line. Hope we have another sell out crowd.

It's not off the table, but we've entered the territory where we need help.
TCU needs to drop one, I think a 1 loss Clemson gets in over a 1-loss TCU.
Ohio State or Michigan needs to finish with 2 loses. Luckily they play each other so 1 loss is guaranteed.
Tennessee needs to drop one more and Georgia runs the table in the SEC that leaves only one spot for the SEC.
If all of those happen we'll have Georgia, the winner of Ohio State/Michigan in and 2 spots left to grab. I think a 1 loss Clemson will get one of those spots.
Of course all of this goes down the drain if Clemson loses another.

Tennessee's best chance to lose will be against South Carolina.
I think we could get in over one loss Ohio St or Michigan..
We'd have an extra win and a conference title.

UT will not lose again, a 1 loss OSU-UM is more worthy than we are. Orange bowl is our pinnacle.
UGA, OSU, UM, UT, real USC, Ducks, perhaps even a one loss TCU will trump our claim.

Can’t agree with this, there’s other teams more deserving that actually try to win. I’m not talking about the players either talking about the coaching staff, I mean until the end they called the same offensive plays over and over again it was like they just crossed their fingers all night hoping it would work one time. If we can get anything out of this season I would take not losing the locker room because #### like last night is how you can begin the process of losing it.

So the coaching staff didn't want to win? I'm sorry but that is a moronic statement.
There's not much you can do when your QB is a statue in the pocket.
My only gripe with the coaching is putting a true freshman in down 21 points back against the goal line.
He should have started the second half.

Assuming UGA, Ohio St., and TCU win out you'd have two 12-1 conference champs in Clemson and most likely Oregon with a 46 point loss vying for the last spot along with 11-1 Tennessee and Michigan without a conference title.
I like our chances in that scenario.

I don't like our chances when you have a bowl committee doing the selection. I am now glad the playoffs will eventually expand to 12 teams because I don't think we stand a chance to make it going forward if it remained 4 teams. We are not getting the level of talent needed at key positions to make a final four right now and I certainly don't see that changing over the next couple of years.

Yeah if we play like we play last night we'll get our butts wooped. However i don't intend on playing like that.
Whose to say we would play like that in the playoffs? Sounds like Judges way of dealing is speaking into being the worst, so if it happens your're not let down, but if all goes well, its a pleasant suprise.
i'd rather be realistic and optimistic. You have to dream big. its why we won the first National Title in the first place

By losing like Clemson did , the championship panel will have better choices. Clemson is out and should play for a good bowl game. They will drop to about 10 in the rankings.

It's unlikely but I agree with you that it is possible if we get some help along the way. My biggest concern is how we respond this Saturday. Right now Louisville is playing their best ball of the season and we are playing our worst. If we don't figure it out this week, we will be in trouble.

This team is not ready for top caliber teams at this point. Next year will be another opportunity. Win the ACC and a bowl game is a reasonable goal at this point. I hope they prove me wrong and win it all

9 games of the eye test says Clemson should not be in the CFP. If the stars align and all of a sudden the O and D become awesome, then maybe we could avoid embarrassment in the CFP. I think we all agree the chances of the O and D turning around are slim.

Doubt it. That wasn’t just a loss last night, that was a really bad loss where we looked inadequately prepared and larger inept. If we did make the playoffs, that will be more of an indictment on the CFP than accomplishment for Clemson. Tbh, I haven’t thought we were playing top 4 football for more than a quarter or two at a time all season. I love Clemson and would like the money that comes with us making CFP but I struggle to see a scenario where we could make a legit argument we’re one of the 4 best teams.

With the issues we’ve had at QB and in the secondary a 12-1 season with a conference title would be remarkable.

I don’t know man. There are a lot of smart Clemson fans out there, beyond TNet’s finest, who watch plenty of college football. Lot of us would want or like our Tigers to be there but I think there are plenty who would be hard pressed to argue honestly that we “should” be there. If a bunch of teams rack up their second losses, maybe. But I think we’re sitting behind at least a handful of 1 loss teams regardless of us winning out. And I see nothing in how we’ve played this season to make me think we find another gear and start blowing teams out and looking dominant.
I do agree that for this team, 12-1 with a conf title would absolutely be an accomplishment and improvement on last season. I’ll take it. Many fan bases would.

I agree with your comment regarding how we have played all season. There is something fundamentally lacking this year just as it was last year. The energy, spark, mojo, whatever you want to call it that permeates teams are genuinely high-performance team is missing.

Agreed…. Haven’t really looked like a top 5 team all year, in my opinion. However, top 10 ain’t bad, if they can get back on track…. I see that as a realistic goal this year. Just hate to be excluded from the playoffs for long….now that they are essentially out of the playoffs, I’d like to see them find their best QB during the remaining games this year. Rotate quarterbacks each quarter and see if you find any consistency. I sure haven’t seen any to this point, though playcalling has an effect too….

Win out and we are in, lose or scrape by in a clunky fashion and we are done.
FSU and especially ND will help us by winning out, and if UNC is still 1 loss and top 10 no way we would be out with our track record. People discount the strength of the ACC Atlantic this year.
We may get throttled but we would make it if we win out.

If they win out and it ugly wins with DJ playing terribly then no win out and still get left out. You gain nothing winning out with DJ bc the committee will not put a team into the top 4 that has a glaring issue at QB/on offense. You make the change and win out scoring points along the way the committee will over look the ND beat down and point to the QB play/switch and the resume. You don't get in with bad QB play period not this year.
