Your response suggests that taking TP players is some sort of status symbol. As if the mere act is going to yield more success on the field. So the more TP players the better the team will be. Check Colorado Buffs for that.

All have transfer players. The portal can and does help. No you shouldn't replace half your team with it. Both of those statements are true. Don't be so polar minded.

Or the converse is true for Dabo. Evidently he believes not using the transfer portal is a status symbol. It's the talent acquisition game. Every other program who is attempting to compete at the highest level is using the portal to improve weaknesses on their roster. Imagine an NFL team refusing to sign any free agents and only trying to build their roster from draft picks.

The team literally has one maybe two available scholarships per David Hood so the net in/out margin at best was going to 10. The only way Dabo could have changed the situation was to run off players or not sign 8-10 incoming freshman. Why do people have such a hard time understanding this? If he runs off players then the culture he built is destroyed. If Clemson was outside the top 20 in the HS recruiting rankings then I could see passing on a handful of 2 or 3 star HS projects in order to sign experienced transfers.

"Embarrassing" seems like an odd choice of words. Why would you be embarrassed about something you have zero input on, zero control over, zero reflection on you as a person, parent, sibling, spouse or friend and which has zero impact on you personally?
Frustrated maybe, if this is the sort of thing you get frustrated over.
As for me, seems best to leave it to the pros that get paid to manage the program, which includes absolutely no one on TigerNet. The fact that Clemson took/takes no one from the portal means nothing without a heck of a lot more information

Why would a top player in the country leave the current team they are on unless it is for $? Do you think wr go to uga tonne developed as wrs or do they go for the cash? If mot for cash they have been contacted by future team before they ever hit the portal. I agree there are a few that are not as stated but are they better than the players we have or were they better against lesser talent at the small school they came from. The portal is a complex thing. I think dabo chooses to use it on the recruiting of top recruits saying he does not bring in transfer ahead of them. So how many recruits have we gotten because of that. Nobody knows the answer.

Win and lose, I like the idea of commitment. I’m not a fan of one and done portal players who had the opportunity to pursue a Clemson scholarship out of high school and chose not to. Now that they need a year in the limelight to advance their draft ability they jump ship from a team they had no commitment to, to the team that pays the most or gives them more nfl attention. Basketball is loading up the roster with outsiders. They’ll have a good season, Brownell will get a good contract extension. They’ll be gone, and other unknowns from other places will take their place while just win fans yell ra-ra-ra while college sports sink to the level of the minor leagues.

How would you(any reader here) feel if player X came to Clemson via TP, had a great season and,,,,he wasn’t a senior. So next spring rolls, we’re all excited thinking player X will be back and be even better. All of a sudden; Nope, He Gone! Transferred again. That would frustrate me. No loyalty.

Identifying & Recruiting Portal Players takes effort

Dabo has zero interest in expending that effort. Clemson pays Dabo top dollar, and he has a job for life. So Dabo has little skin in the game, why should he put in the extra work? Let lesser schools like Michigan, Notre Dame, UGA, BAMA, Ohio State and others put in the work to buy portal players and wins.

were probably more about appearance than actual talent acquisition. The appearance of being amenable to the portal as a source for supplementing the roster. I don't believe there was much expectation of a commit via the TP but that's just an assumption. I'd also be curious to know how well informed the portal guru (back up qb's dad, name escapes me) is regarding TP personnel as well as potentials-

Interesting Season Ahead

Tigers starting with UGA and Kirby Smart who has perfected NIL/Pay for Play and O-line/RB/Defense recruiting. Smart uses the portal to fill holes with (9) incoming 2024 transfers incl.(6) 4-stars.
Dabo and Kirby are relatively equal in terms of HC success even while UGA is on a better three-year trajectory. Can Dabo shock the world and shake that up with a 2024 opener win? Lets hope so. I believe Clemson can win a low scoring game if Wes, Nick and Reed have the young guys on Defense coached up this summer, and Tigers Offense blocks, mixes it up, and minimizes turnovers. Running Mafah up the middle all day will not cut it. Will Riley & Dabo force UGA to not stack line and play the whole field by sending Wesco, Moore or Turner on a few deep routes? One big play could be the difference.
FSU and NCSU represent a lower bar but also 2023 losses to be addressed. Will Clemson allow Norvell to upgrade his status with two in a row?
Tigers taking care of business this year will improve Clemson's media trajectory by forcing ESPN/SEC and Fox/B1G to cut back on Clemson slights. And winning will no doubt help conference realignment positioning.
The Defense skews young with Woods, Parker, Carter, Sammy Brown, and Terrell representing top pro caliber players. Will these young guys be ready in Game 1?
A lot on the line in 2024 incl. Clemson's ability to compete without portal players. Go Tigers!
