Tonight. He played RB, LB and Punter. He is a great linebacker and outstanding athlete but honestly I was more impressed with him at RB and Punter than LB. In my opinion he is ahead of most of the linebackers we’ve had when they were in HS before they got to us, especially from a strength standpoint. He kind reminded me of Spensor Shuey at LB as in College Shuey, not HS Shuey. One play that stood out was when he was lined up as the strong side LB and a Wren back broke through their line on the weak side and looked like he had a lot of real estate ahead of him, Brown comes out of nowhere like he’s shot out of a cannon and tackles him. As far as RB he kinda reminds me of Wayne Gallman, to be honest. He’s mostly a straight line/follow your blockers type of runner but he does have a little wiggle to him in the open field.
As far as punter, he will not be a college punter but that didn’t stop him from looking confident doing that tonight. His punts were line drives mostly but a couple went over the PR head for a big net yardage.

interesting comparison with Wayne Gallman. He was also a LB and RB at Grayson who was just a hard nose, tough as nails kid. Think the LB mentality helped at RB so maybe the same will happen with Sammy just in reverse. HS football in GA is as good as it gets so that will help with transition.

Shuey was just above average imo, kind of good. I hope he is nothing like him.

Thanks for the report. Just hope he makes it trough the season unhurt. Getting played two-way increases the chances of something bad happening. Seems to me his hs coach is just riding Sammy like a rented mule.

Not at all. Like another poster said. He was only used about half

the players on offense and half on defense. For example: on Defense he would come in on 3rd down a lot
He was rotated about 50 percent with another littl change of pace back on offense.

I was at the game as well. Your correct that they rotated a small back for maybe 40% of the offensive plays but Sammy lined up in the slot on a couple of those I believe. As for defense, by my count, he was in for roughly 75% of the plays. They tried to give him a little break if Wren was backed up in a hole but as soon as they started moving on the field he would come. I was there until the final play. With roughly 4 minutes to play Sammy was still on the field trying to keep Wren from scoring which they did anyway. I sat in the middle of the the Jefferson section. His father is an O line coach and his brother plays as well. Just a guess, but I think they want him to get his stats to qualify for some of the top national honors. I can't think of any other reason that he's in the game under with under 4 minutes to play leading 30-7. BTW, I the kid is everything they said he is. The hype is deserved.
