Non-judgement call - elbow

Feb 17, 2013, 9:13 PM

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm not all too upset with the way that the refs called the game tonight. No matter what the announcers say, I think the defender had pretty good position on the charging call against Rod Hall. Maybe, being a home game, we should get the call on a close one like that, but we didn't.

But correct me if I'm wrong -- and please do, I'm not sure about this one -- but isn't "...any contact with an elbow above the shoulders" supposed to be a Flagrant One? On one of those last drives, the Miami guy hit Mcdaniels in the chin with his elbow as he drove in. They called a blocking foul on McDaniels.

Now, even if that blocking foul should stand, which I think it should since that was the way it was called, shouldn't the refs go to the replay and award Clemson with two shots as well?

Seeing as how we shot free throws... Probably wouldn't have made a difference.

But, isn't that a clear rule? I remember this getting called against us earlier in the season. I think it was Booker. It wasn't intentional, but the announcer said that any contact with an elbow above the shoulders would get a Flagrant One. The refs were supposed to be watching it closer this year.

At least, that's what I remember. Am I wrong? It seems like a straightforward call.

If you watch Clemson Sports as long as some of us on here have you will be able to write a some what long book pointing out no calls/angus droppings calls by the Zebras not even going into the close ones

Yes, I definitely agree.

This just seems like it was something that KJ or Brownell could have called to the refs attention and is not one of those things where refs could intentionally or unintentionally favor one team over another. But it also just makes me wonder if I do not understand the rule on an elbow correctly.

I'm not really one to gripe after a game about officiating, although it is often a valid gripe. But this is one of those things, that to my understanding, is reviewed immediately and is pretty cut and dry. That's why I'm viewing it as a non-judgement call.

Again, I just wonder if I actually understand the rule correctly.
