for an 0.76 winning percentage, 5 ACC titles, and one national championship. Most Clemson fans hated to see him leave after the 1989 season and many were even very upset about it with a March to the CU president's house and crowds that gathered elsewhere.
Dabo has coached Clemson 16 full seasons and two partial seasons with a 181-50 record , 0.78 winning percentage, 9 ACC titles, and two national championships. Now many "fans" (maybe a very vocal minority?) along with some "experts" want hime gone.
So what's the difference besides the internet social media influence? Or is that the biggest difference with the internet mob mentality? Would things have been different if the internet had been a big influence then? I'm a big fan of both, just wondering.

Danny was still an uptrend. Dabs has taken a downtrend over the last 5.

Ford was ahead of his time. He was already embracing NIL before it was hip.

Umm... did you ever graduate from high school? Honestly, are you not old enough, sophisticated enough, educated enough to communicate without having to rely upon sophmoric introductions such as: Umm?

In Ford’s final season we were 10-2 with a 45-0 win over the coots and a 27-7 Gator Bowl win over WV.

Like the criticism of Ford’s “3 yards and a cloud of dust” offense. Many fans were grumbling about it and wanted to modernize the offense, but few wanted him fired.
Few want Dabo fired, but many are grumbling about his coaching staff and the need to change current staff with more experienced coaches able to get better production out of the players.
As for the media, there is a lot more of that than back in 1990 so talking heads now have to generate buzz to get paid.

1985 he tried to change to a passing offense. Don't remember the sequence, but it wasn't going well early in the season, the QB got hurt (cut hand or arm on a broken window), and he changed to freshman Rodney and went back to the option.

I’m still upset about it. It was my Senior year and I was at his first game in the Gator Bowl. It was also the infamous Woody Hayes game against Ohio State. How’s that for a coaching debut!

That’s never a good look. You lose the respect of some that way.
I think it’s obvious why he’s that way but maybe try to shake off that persecution complex and people won’t just shrug when you’re gone.

If Tigenet had been around in Fords day in would not have been any different. People would be complaining about running the fullback too much, never getting a dynamic QB and losing to decent but not great Duke and NC State teams.

I would think that if there had been Social Media back then, that Clemson Admins would have relented and not fired Danny due to the backlash. They would have been bombarded with negative posts to the point of relenting. People seem to forget that a large number of fans were booing the Clemson offense back then, to the point that some people were leaving the stadium. Talk about VANILLA!! A family member had to remove his wife & kids at Clemson-NCST one year when we were behind 0-21 and still running the ball because the cursing and yelling was too bad to tolerate. People have selective memory loss. Danny went 6-6 in 1985 and they booed that team. He was allowed to rebuild and had national powers with 10 wins a season in the late 80's before being let go by a wuss of a school President.

Mecklenburg, what’s not likable about Dabo? He honest, he’s a Christian, he loves his team. He wants what’s best for his players. I’ll take him any day, and no, I’m not a Dabo worshiper. I was around when Danny was at CU. Liked him too.

Was a freshman that year. We made a huge sign and stood under the basket for a mid week game that said give max the ax and bring Danny back. They took it from us but we were not happy about Danny getting gone.
And yes I think social media is biggest difference. Clemson fans expect to win. Always.

Danny was getting close to another Natty after going through probation and having one hand tied behind his back. Dabo keeps one hand tied by his own doing by not using all tools available to get better for the last four years.

I don't think it's internet related. Or even mob mentality. These are two very different situations. And ones that go beyond simple coaching philosophies.
Ford wasn't let go because he wouldn't throw the ball or adopt what was then called the west coast offense. He was let go because the University was in trouble. And was dangerously close to probation. It was decided that his way of doing things were no longer acceptable.
During Dabo's tenure, the entire ###### was flipped. Things that would have at one time actually gotten a team on probation are now made legit. Broken wide open by combining the change in the transfer rule. People now feel that his was of doing things is no longer working.
This where we fall into the group think. "How could anyone in their right mine want the best thing to happen to Clemson football gone?" or the opposite, "This guy needs to go". Both applies to Ford and Swinney.
BTW, base on record winning percentage: Ken Hatfield was 32-13-1 (.833), 1 ACC Champ. and was fired.

Honestly, Coach Ford got pushed out while he

was pretty much still on top of his game. He likely would've hit a decline at some point in the 90s (almost every coach does at some point), and had that played out his legacy would likely be a bit different.
Imagine if Dabo had been forced out after the 2020 season, or if Bobby Bowden had been ousted from FSU in 2000 before he went through those last 8 years.

When Danny left before the 1990 season, the cupboard was completely full. Clemson was expected to compete for another national championship in 1990. Even with a very lame coach in Kent Hatfield they still won the ACC.
The trajectory right now as a hockey stick pointing down. The team is a mess and we’ve lost three straight home games. there’s absolutely no discipline, and no plan. If you can’t see this, then you’re simply not paying attention.

Also, times are changing. I think Dabo‘s message has gotten a little bit stale and overused by other programs. We’re simply not bringing in the horses like we used to. The college football world is rapidly changing, and Dabo is not
