It actually sounded like Dino uses what Clemson has an excuse for a narrow loss. I think that Dino is a good FB coach that gets the most out of what he has but, Dabo started winning championships before we had all they used and showed that we now have!!! Go Tigers!!!

Very interesting.

Learned what's next in terms of facilities:

"In November, Clemson is adding a sports science recovery wing, complete with float pods, massage chairs and infrared therapy beds.
"Think of Brookstone," Turnipseed said, "on steroids."

In two years, he hopes, the school will pour $5 million to add an NFL locker room and studio for recruits and players to do photo shoots.
NFL locker room?

"Any current player who is in the NFL," Turnipseed said, "we give them a locker."

New dorm rooms, he said, are the next frontier for athletic departments to hone in on, aside from updating fan amenities in the stadium.
"My best recruiting tool," Turnipseed said, "is having that stadium filled.

"We've got to take care of that guy paying $75 sitting out in the sun with bigger concourses, better bathrooms, better concessions, cool zone as well as financially, going to have more premium seating to help pay for it all."

LOL at some of the reader comments there.

Oct 4, 2018, 11:18 PM

Some comments stated that these perks are "impermissible benefits," which they aren't. Plus, don't they think Clemson's administration, compliance department, and lawyers would've checked into that before spending millions of dollars?

Other commenters are very holier-than-thou, stating that this type of facility is inappropriate for college students who should be focusing on education. That's pretty dumb, since our football program actually has admission criteria above what most D1 programs do, and we graduate our players at an extremely high rate (better than Syracuse on both counts).

The kicker was the commenter who stated that facilities like this won't happen at Syracuse, "because we're a small private school." I guess he missed the fact that Clemson raised all of the money for these facilities from private donations - which any school, public or private, could do. Plus, Clemson's enrollment is less than Syracuse's, so there goes that argument as well.

Syracuse knows they are unlikely to ever have facilities like this.

Did I misread? Thought it said funded hy athletic dept and private funding.

Dabo had to come up with 8 figure donation before they could start. Don't think it was 100% privately funded.

Yes....could be starting at 10,000,000. Total was 50 something million?

I am the one who misread - and misstated things in my post.

Thanks for clarifying. I meant that the school itself didn't fund it. Isn't the athletic department mostly a stand-alone entity? I know it gets some funding from the school, but I thought it was more like its own company. Or perhaps I'm thinking about IPTAY...

The Cuse comments are swimming in jealousy. They are a petty bunch, and their comments amply demonstrate they know nothing about what it takes to win in college football. I doubt they will ever amount to much once another program steals Babers. It was a mistake having them in the ACC in the first place.

Personally I am happy they are in the ACC. I live in western NY and became a Clemson fan after my son was recruited by Clemson and is now an alum. We went to games while he was there and now can only get back for 1 game a year. Because of Syracuse, there are 2 fantastic benefits. The games are carried by one of the Buffalo channels when Raycom has the broadcast. The other is a 3 hour trip to Syracuse to see the Tigers. There must be others in my position because I see them at the Syracuse games in full Clemson attire. They come to the game from all over the northeast.
