New staff from outside

Dec 14, 2021, 4:10 PM

At one point in time, every hire was new.

Reed, Bates, Streeter, Conn - all came from other programs and had a variety of prior experiences. Because they've been on staff for a few years, though, some see them as "homers."

While Saban brings in folks from all over and then has them do things his way, Dabo likes to bring in promising young coaches in supportive positions in order to coach them up and to check the chemistry they have with the program and the rest of the staff.

Is this not a time-tested process used by many businesses?

There have, of course, been a few notable examples. Venables is, perhaps, the most obvious. But, in that case, Steele had just given up 70 points to WVU and there wasn't anyone else on the staff that Dabo trusted. The D needed some shaking up.

Is it not within the realm of possibility that the Venables touch has rubbed off on a few of his acolytes?
