I am 55 years old and have never smoked anything…tobacco, weed, crack, etc. With that said, I have had plenty of chances and have been around those first two examples many times and have many friends over the years who do/have. I don’t have anything against it or the people who do…it’s just something I have never done…just never saw the need or had the desire…even while drunk. I suppose the only reason I can think of is that both parents were heavy smokers (tobacco) and I couldn’t stand the way the house and my clothes smelled because of it. Anyway, just throwing that out there on a nice cool Sunday afternoon. I’d be surprised if there are many like me out there.

I have never smoked because I don't like the smell of smoke. With autoimmune-related lung issues today, I am glad that I didn't, but there was definitely peer pressure during the good old days.

Never have , can walk by anyone and tell if they smoke . Smell is not as bad these days with many switching to the crack pipes ( vaping ) .

I have never smoked or drank. I loved my grandparents dearly and they both died from lung cancer when I was young and they were 59 and 69 so way too young. That was my reasoning for swearing it off forever.

I'll have to admit I tried weed a couple of times in the 80s. I didn't get anything out of it though like Bill Clinton said, because I didn't do it right lol. Had a cigar with a card game a few times back then too.
Smoking makes everything smell bad including the house, clothes, and smoker's breath. What is odd is that I've seen a lot of total neat freaks that kept their house and their car spotless and immaculate, yet they smoked.
Weird also is when you see people in the healthcare business that smoke. And I remember when people could smoke inside at work. Now that they have to go outside, you see a lot of dedicated smokers that go out in all kinds of nasty weather for a drag.

Came close to trying weed in college. Was in a dorm room with 6-7 folks when at the College of Charleston. They were passing it around. I was sitting next to a girl that I was really into at the time and she tried to get me to…but even she failed to get me! Ha.

I remember during Covid seeing people pull their mask down so they could smoke. So you could die from smoking but heaven forbid you got Covid!

I did some in my 30's - 40's. I havent in years. I had crappy heredity and was a dope to ever start. I am in my first day at home after open heart surgery. I have been exercising regularly for many years. DO NOT SMOKE. Take it from one who knows.

My father in law smokes everyday a ton. He's 84 and will probably outlive all of us....

Anybody besides me has smoked dried catalpa tree seed pods ? They are about 10 inches long and about the size of a pencil. You snipped both ends off, lit it, and smoked it like a cigar with short puffs. They are strong but made a young boy feel older.

Smoked those nasty things at the yong age of 12. We had a tree that produced them. Never knew the name of the tree or the "Indian Cigars" is what everyone called them.

I’ve smoked a number of things in my life, but the worst was Indian Cigars (that’s what we called them as kids). They are dried Catawba beans withe the ends cut off. Pretty nasty, but as a 10 year old we thought it was pretty cool.

Have to admit I’m pretty surprised at the responses, especially from some of the older folks. Seems like back in the day, everyone smoked…but maybe I was just hyper aware of it. Just curious since on the subject, anyone else’s high school have a smoking area? Fort MIll High still did at least through the mid 80’s.

Every time I picked up a cigarette back in college( mid 80’s because all my roommates smoked, ) I got sick the next morning, so I must have been allergic to it! Pot a few times, but didn’t like laughing at nothing! 🤪so haven’t touched any of it since 1989. Beer… a different story!

My father unknowingly cured me from smoking when I was very young in the 70s. We were stationed in Ft Wainwright, Fairbanks Ak, and not long after my uncle, his brother moved up because my father bragged about the outdoor experience. Well in the winter time when its -40⁰ or colder, its hard to do much outside so we would go road hunting.
Road hunting was basically riding around fire lines and rock roads looking for snowshoe rabbits or ptarmigan birds. Young and in army, my dad didn't make much so 95% of our meat was fish and game we harvested. Well riding around in a single cab truck for hours with 2 men smoking, windows up, heat on high, and me sitting in the middle, I was smoking as much as them basically. I remember my eyes burning, my nose snotting, hating every second of cigarettes, but loved being out with the big boys plinking a rabbit or grouse or whatever. At 3-4yrs old, I could shoot a 22 rifle pretty well and I often got to help harvest dinner.
But I am sure there were times, that old truck at 40⁰ below, when the doors opened it looked like a Cheech and Chong episode with smoke bellowing out, just not their type of smoke.

It’s too bad that vapes came around because smoking was dying off, with hardly any young people doing it when I was coming up in the late 2000s early 2010s. I just barely missed the vape phase, which has gotten young people to smoke again unfortunately

I smoked for a year or so when I was younger. Thank goodness I never got addicted to it. It’s so nasty and harmful. I think parents who smoke around their kids nowadays are horrible because everyone now knows how bad it is. I’ve smoked pot and done other drugs when I was younger but nothing since I met my husband 36 years ago. He has never done any drugs and had a mom that smoked so he’s totally against that.
My friends at Clemson had a roommate placed with them at Riverbank commons. Unbeknownst to them he was a drug dealer/student. He grew pot in his bedroom closet and sold other drugs. They said the landline phone would ring at all hours of the night and they said they were gonna start answering “Hello drug hotline”. We called him Doug drug.

non stop, in the house, car everywhere. My cousin was living with them through high school. My grandfather signed a Smoking Permit and bought cigs so he could smoke at high school.
My dad had heart disease which I contribute to genetics and 2nd hand smoke. They worked together until his 40's. My dad never smoked.
I have never smoked and never will. I hold resentment towards my Grandad for doing it.

Tried a cig when i was like 16....took a couple hits and couldn't do it anymore, it just left a nasty taste in my mouth. I've never smoked anything ever since. That was 25 years ago.

I have never smoked anything either. I grew up with asthma and was preached that smoking wouldn’t be advisable. I’m 64 years old and my parents didn’t smoke, and none of my roommates at Clemson smoked either. At my age, they were extremely easy to get if you wanted them. Stores would sell to ANYONE with money, and there were cigarette vending machines everywhere too. I knew folks that smoked and was offered the chance many times, it just never interested me.

I spent 20 years in the canoe club. In my day smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee and conversation was all we had.
Actually in lieu of entertainment warships were havens for practical jokes.
This was the smoke hole aboard USS Elrod (FFG-55). ….And the reverse angle.

Occasionally I will smoke a nice $10-$15 Cigar. Never liked the small of cigarette smoke. Never smoked weed either. I did not have to. I was the RA on my floor. The guys that lived in the room beside smoked enough that it would get into my room. My room was larger than the others and I had no roommate. There was a 6” metal piece that separated our rooms so the weed would drift over into my room. I am not sure if I ever felt any affects from it.
I could have been a jerk and turned in, but I knew they bong their way out of school with their grades. Which is exactly what happened.
I was not like a few of the other over zealous RA’s who went by the book. I had 3 rules. No excessive noise Sunday through Thursday night. Some people actually studied. If you got sick instead of making maintenance clean it up, I made the guilty party clean it up. That put a stop to a lot of that kind of stuff. My last rule was no hard drugs like cocaine or other hard drugs being used on the floor. If there was usage I went to housing to help them professionally. Never saw any on the dorm.
My biggest pet peeve was when someone pulled the fire alarm at 3 or 4 am. I really enjoyed my 1 semester at Clemson but it was just too big for me.
I had one guy who lived on my floor with his future wife. They made that work for 2 years. The dumbest thing guys smoking weed and throwing empty bottles out the window onto cars. It was the last day for students so they must have figured they would not get called. They caused over $20,000 in damage to some really nice cars. This was the only time I called the City PD. We stood outside their door listening to them laugh. When they opened the door the blood drained from their heads. They turned white as a sheet just before the PD handcuffed them. I have never figured out why they would do something so stupid. Glad I never smoked wacky weed 🤪😜
