Clemson offers Upstate tight end, Tigers legacy
Clemson's tight end recruiting for 2022 pressed on with an offer to 3-star Greenville High School (SC) target and Clemson legacy Josh Sapp. "WOW!! VERY BLESSED TO RECEIVE AN OFFER FROM CLEMSON UNIVERSITY!!!" Sapp posted Thursday afternoon, who is the son of former Clemson quarterback Patrick Sapp. S Read Update » |

This three star 6'-2" tall tight end with no other major offers around the country including South Carolina has absolutely no chance of ever making it onto the field in any game for us. What is Dabo thinking here? What a waste of an offer!

Parental success doesn't mean the next gen. will be but......

His Daddy was a heck of an athlete. Half his genes are Patrick's so I'd say he started life with a leg up. For the "waste of a schollie" crew, if you didn't see his Dad, let me tell you. Patrick was a HS QB, probably multiple positions. He had a CANNON for an arm. He may have had the strongest arm, I've ever seen in person. So he plays QB at Clemson. I think it was his Jr. Year we got a influx of QB prospects. Sapp swallowed his pride, manned up and became a MONSTER LB. I think he only played 1 yr but maybe 2 at LB. The athleticism jumped out and was easy to see. When it was all said and done the move to LB, allowed him to get drafted (3rd rd. I think) and play in the NFL for several years. I'm sure he is a chip off the old block. I'll take him and be happy.
On another note who are we to doubt Dabo's eye for the hidden gems? May I remind you 9f Hunter Renfrow, both Spector boys, Skalski, Nolan Turner...must I continue? Most of this list consists of guys that many said, "Dabo is wasting scollies for his old buddies kids." Some said that about Jake Venables too. Jake is a beast. Yeah, none of those guys can play. None of them will ever be All-ACC. No way any will be All-Americans. I rest my case!

Hopefully he commits soon and we can move forward quickly. I feel good about him. He can come in play 4 games possibly and redshirt and that will keep a nice balance. Looks like he is having a great start to this season too.

Never say that Dabo doesn't always have a backup plan.

Given this kid's previous offer list, he probably IS genuinely surprised to get the Clemson offer right now, Legacy or not.

I’d consider Tulane. Up and coming program. Great academics.
Going to college in New Orleans? Hell yes.

Forgive me, was he previously offered by some of the major schools? I just hope this kid is legitimately good, and Dabo isn't doing another one of the good old family kids, his father having played here.

Next man up. We lost on the 2 we were gunning for. Kid has almost 30 yards/catch..... As a TE. Uhhhh... Yes please. Dabo has done far more with "less".

Maybe he can fill the roll of Milan Richard and be an ambassador for the team and make some depth for the future.

No need to worry about anything else since we don’t utilize the TE as a down the field weapon…. Missing out out on Delp is a big nothing burger, we have a higher rated, better pass catching TE on the roster, just not even playing him yet, taller and heavier than Delp and will hopefully be ready by next year, but it’s on the coaches to utilize him.
Jake Briningstool: 0.9713
Oscar Delp: 0.9589
Ball is in the coaches court to play to this kids talents, change the narrative about our program over the last few years and use the TE as a part of the passing game, not the blocking.

You figure his Dad went from QB to All Pro linebacker. I think he will find some way to contribute.

Love Patrick Sapp and he was very good at Clemson and a relatively high NFL pick in the 2nd round. Not All Pro though. Looking forward to seeing his son commit and play (legacy or not).

I often rode the bus with his dad.... During that time the CAT Bus stopped carrying the players over the Jervey. Just after a most miserable loss at FSU (he was on the field me and my family were being screamed at in the stands) the bus dropped him off at the stadium in the rain. I gave him a lift over to Jervey. I will say that he was an outstanding fellow regardless of what was happening on the field. Later moved to LB to help out the defense. Something that many players (especially QB's) aren't willing to do. Patrick Sapp will always have my respect! I wish his son well regardless of where he chooses to go to school

If at first you do not succeed, try try again! I will say a TE is not something we truly need, I am more concerned about how we are not getting any DL's. We need to really go after Shemar Stewart or Marvin Jones Jr.

Just watch the film to see if he can catch and block: he can. 6'2" and 230 is nothing to sneeze at for a 17/18 year old. He could very well end up a LB too!

Sounds great, let’s just fill the roster with coaches kids, ex players kids, and hope for the best.

Tell ya what.... When you have a better coaching resume, have a coaching pedigree of Saban or, oh I don't know, maybe Dabo Swinney, then I'll go with your opinion. Until then, I'll stick with the one who brought us here

No other P5 offers, not even within the ACC footprint by teams that use the TE. Thus, he clearly is a developmental take. If he develops into an excellent blocker then that’s all the Tigers need this recruiting cycle. I think we miss the H-back in our offense, but I’m thinking he doesn’t fit that need.

21 catches for 585 yards and five scores in Greenville's first five games this season.

Wake up fellas! Those are not 3 star TE numbers! Somebody’s been paying attention. Very refreshing to see.
