What has Monte done? Besides missing the NCAA tournament for consecutive years for the first time in 25+ years? Brownell has a Sweet Sixteen run to hang his hat on and he beat the Holes in the Dean Dome. Plus Brownell hasn't really fallen short of historical averages with Clemson Men's basketball. Monte was well short of historical averages with Baseball.

Statistics, man. Clemson Men's basketball is not trending downward. It may not be where most of us want it, but it's staying close to the historical mean. Clemson Baseball is trending downward in relation to the historical mean.

All you can do is compare the number - the on-field, on-court numbers - and such things as GPAs, graduation numbers, injuries, etc.
WE NEVER see the things inside the programs, the things only to which the coaches, players, and administration are privy. And, thank God, they don't share that privileged information on TNET, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
That's why ADs and Presidents are paid the big bucks - to make decision with ALL the info, not just a slice of a pie. Even then, it's a gamble: fire a guy/gal whose program is on the brink for cause or wait to see if that program can recover. Hire a new coach and start from scratch. It's a gamble - every time.

bit in their mouth. Now that Neff has gotten a taste of actually firing a Head Coach, and realizing that he has, and can in fact USE that power, next season should be very interesting for Clemson Basketball.
Judge Keller:
You say that Brad Brownell is a great coach who has been working with all sorts of disadvantages at Clemson, but that AD Neff is now addressing these. That means you MUST know what they are. Please enlighten the rest of us, so that we will know when to expect BB to start performing at a higher level?

The main ones are:
1. Subpar program funding, which primarily affects assistant coach salaries. Both Brownell and Neff have discussed this being an issue. As a result of our tight budget, we have had trouble hiring the assistants Brad needs, and also retaining the ones he wants to keep. Thankfully, this is something that is being addressed. You can see the progress with our hiring of Billy Donlon as our assistant. He was a head coach at KC the last few years, and we hired him away from there. His salary is around $400,000, a nice increase from what we typically pay our basketball assistants.
2. Lack of continual facility upgrades. The upgrades from 2015 were much needed, and nice, but they did not magically vault us up to having top facilities for college basketball. We went cheaper than we should've. We must continue improving our facilities, rather than waiting our usual decade-plus to address them again. Neff is already planning facility improvements for basketball, which is great to see.

Who does more with "less"? Name a P5 school that speeds less than both us and their peers and gets a better return. From a program-wide investment

1st I am ready for a change at the Basketball HC position, but I will try to answer your question. The Baseball facilities are in great shape and were good when Monty got here. He really had no excuse that I can see as far as recruiting goes. He should have been very near the topp of the ACC in recruiting every year.
Brownel reminds me of the "jinx" episode on Andy Griffith, if any of you remember it. He needed new facilities, and when they announced a year before they started that remodel, that the team would not be able to play in Little John.
1. Recruiting was hurt the year before the remodel started
2. Recruiting was killed the 2 years during the construction
3. The recruiting was hurt the year coming out of the remodel completion , going into the new facility
You "could" argue that he was almost starting over after that. Add to it that he dit beat the "Holes" in chapel hill, and i think you give him this year, and hope for a turn around. I dont think it will happen, and I do think, shourt of the dance he is done.
I think Monty had very few hurdles in his way, versus Brad.
