Need to Appreciate This Era That We Are In

Nov 14, 2017, 9:05 AM

Something to think about...

Since the heartbreaking overtime loss at Florida State in September 2014 (a loss that dropped us to 1-2 on the season after an earlier defeat at Georgia that year to start the season), Clemson is 46-4 since that time...that's a 92.0% winning percentage since that time. The only losses in that span have been to Georgia Tech (2014), Alabama (2015), Pittsburgh (2016), and so far this season, Syracuse (2017). That was a level of success that they Tigers did not achieve even in the Pell/Ford/early Hatfield era of greatness (1977-1992).

In the last five seasons plus the current one, we are 69-10...a win pct of 87.3%. Over the past six seasons plus the current one we are 79-14, an 84.9% winning rate. So, before we get all crumped up about what we think is best as fans, let's cut our coaches some slack. Dabo came in with a plan to build this program to the point that it could have sustainable success. We must remember that this year was expected be an Orange Bowl kind of year and not a CFP year. We act as if this is all going to end tomorrow. It will one day for sure, but it will not be tomorrow. This team is going to be even better next year than it was this year. So, in a slight retooling year we are 9-1, in the ACC title game (where we were not predicted to be), and we are in the national championship title discussion after 10 games. Let's trust our coaches a little bit. They have a proven track record of success before and after DeShaun Watson.

So, we'll whisper a dream here in the darkness.
Watching the stars till their gone.
And when even the mem'ries have all faded away,
these days go on and on.

Coach Ford was 10-2 in 87, 88, 89. Coach Hatfield was 10-2 in 90. Before Coach Swinney, 87-90 was Clemson’s best stretch of sustained success. Coach Swinney will more than likely hit 10 wins for the 7th time in row on Saturday. There has never been a time, like this time, in Clemson Football history. If you can’t be happy with how things are going for Clemson Football right now, I think it’s probably safe to say, you just can’t be happy.
