NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS QB

Aug 17, 2022, 4:15 PM

As a Clemson die-hard fan, I often browse around the nation to see if any unusual opponents arise, that may face the Tigers this upcoming season. The Nebraska Cornhuskers are fairly decent at the QB position. They have what appears to be a once in a generation type QB that could take them to the playoff. Well, provided that their QB has adequate protection, and they find an above average defense. However, I think it's worth keeping an eye out for them this season. They seem semi legit even though not many people are talking about them.

GO TIGERS!

We faced them the year after UGA won a National Championship last time. I agree, we will beat Nebraska in the playoffs again!

They won’t know what hit them! ?

I would like to see them become the real deal again. They are definitely a couple of years away, if it all, but I would love to see jt. They are good for college football.

Nebraska is a fish out of water in the B1G. They lose recruiting battles now to Texas schools due to no games in the area and the B1G because now their schedule is only that and there are many better options.

If they could maneuver a trade with Missouri to switch leagues (SEC / B1G) each would probably be better off going forward, as well as their respective leagues.

I agree, that move to the BIG seemed to take all the air out

Aug 20, 2022, 9:19 AM

of Nebraska's program. No more natural rivalry games, long travel to league venues, and recruiting just died. They let Texas and Oklahoma run them out of the Big 12, for whatever reason.

Maybe a Nebarska QB will greatly improve their record this year, but enough to make them playoff material??? Don't think so!!! They need to make great improvements, both Offensively & Defensively, to make the Playoffs. Even in the greatly over-rated Big Ten!

Is this a serious post? They are looking at 8 wins max.

No one is talking about them...

Aug 17, 2022, 4:48 PM

because over the last five years, they have won a combined total of just 19 games.

While the schedule is a bit easier for them this year (they don't play Ohio State, Michigan State or Penn State), I still don't see them winning more than 4 or 5 games, in which case, Scott Frost is probably going to get canned.

As a resident of Lincoln, NE, allow me to opine

Aug 17, 2022, 4:59 PM

Last year, Nebraska was capable of playing football at a high level. They played toe to toe with Michigan, close to Ohio St, outplayed MIch St, but also managed to lose to Illinois, MInnesota, Purdue, Iowa, and pretty much everybody else by 1 score.

They actually outscored their opponents on the season total, but lost 9 games.

Biggest problem is turnovers and pass protection. Often turnovers resulting from poor pass protection.

THey are a team that if they get a little better, the record could get a lot better. Might be some good money to be made on them if they show some life early.

Aug 17, 2022, 5:00 PM

I was feeling a little silly this afternoon and decided to post a funny. Nebraska is going to their usual toilet bowl this season. I will say this though, I did watch some film on their Freshman QB, and he looks the part naturally. If they can get a new coaching staff and recruit some good players around him then he has a chance to be special. LOL

for so many years. They were outstanding. Their 1995 team was arguably the best college football team ever. They set the standard in the 1980s for strength and conditioning. They were a national power in an era when it was very hard to be one.

It’s sad how far they’ve fallen. It would be great to see them return to glory.

Last year's team was historic...

Aug 17, 2022, 6:09 PM

in how they found ways to lose games.

I watched their opener against Illinois. It was so obvious Nebraska was a much better team. Both teams knew it. The crowd knew. The announcers knew. Their self-destruction was a sight to behold. Took my breath away.

It's been said they were the best 3-9 team in history.

The only guaranteed losses on their schedule this year are OU and Michigan (and maybe Iowa). Wouldn't surprise me if they win 7 games.

Aug 17, 2022, 6:48 PM

I was in Nebraska a few weeks ago having dinner at a country club and the couple I was with and two other couples sitting together were the only ones in the dining room. Since my friend is a huge Husker supporter (and has a box in the stadium) I spoke up and asked him about what he expected from Nebraska this year. He shusshed me and pointed over to the other table. It was Scott Frost and his wife with one of his coaches and their wife. I concluded that it is a bad idea to talk about Nebraska football around their coach! We are probably safe here! I don't think they are going to be very good, but if they can figure out how to play the 4th quarter, they may have a winning season.

What the hell have you been smoking? The Huskers are down right now and way way down and theirnQB is maybe average at best. They have a transfer at QB and he’s OK at best. Probably authentic same level as DJ.

Do not let what happened at Nebraska repeat itself when Dabo retires.

Nebraska became spoiled from Osborne’s success at the end and became entitled to winning national championships, and when that wasn’t happening with Tom’s successor (Frank Solich), they fired him because he only averaged almost 10 wins per season.

After the failed Bill Callahan experiment, Nebraska hires Bo Pellini (another Osborne hire since he was AD at the time). Still, the Nebraska people had that entitled 90’s mentality and fired him for only winning no less than 9 games per season.

Nebraska is getting what they deserve, but as a Clemson graduate but an even bigger Husker fan because of family there, hopefully Frost figures it out. But please let this be an example of what not to do when Dabo retires.

I had a coworker that was raised in Nebraska around the time they were good. He said that all the players were on steroids. I dont know if that was much different than other teams at the time.

Re: NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS QB

Aug 21, 2022, 2:08 PM [ in reply to Re: NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS QB ]

Callahan wasn’t an experiment. They fired a 9-3 coach and nobody wanted the job. They tried to hire several coaches and were flat out rejected and they finally settled on Callahan and thought since he was an NFL coach that he could do well at the college level. They were clearly wrong. Pelini was just another mistake and a possible escaped mental patient. I love Scott Frost, but he’s got his hands full restoring that program and the fans are impatient. Nebraska has many problems and are nowhere near a contender for even the western division of the Big 10 and I haven’t any idea what the OP is thinking or watching. Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue and Minnesota are all better in the West right now than Nebraska until proven otherwise. Follow the game before making some ridiculous comments please.

Aug 23, 2022, 1:19 PM [ in reply to Re: NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS QB ]

But fundamentally, Nebraska is in no-man's land recruiting wise.

Honestly, they could compete better if they hired a Paul Johnson protege' and went triple option.

The people here are starving for a winner, and are sometimes delusional about what they need to get there, and how far away they are.

But, they just need to field a team that doesn't self destruct and they'd win 7 to 9 every year. Last year's team had some real bright spots, but their only creativity was in finding new ways to lose close games.

Much like politics, it’s a case of folks not thinking for themselves, instead letting some “expert” on ESPN think for them. Same with NCSU this year. Programs show you what they are, it’s just some refuse to believe what they show you. Scott Frost is a 5-7 coach when facing real competition, about like Dave Doreen is a 8-4 coach on a good year. About like S. Carolina is a 7-5 program on a good year. Always try and believe what someone shows you they are!
