Sounds like a good thing in my opinion. You know ESPN and company are already trying to figure out a way to make money on covering it. Almost like the old National Signing Day used to be.

No doubt, it will be like the trade deadline and free agency periods in the NFL/MLB/NBA.

Sure will help with knowing who you have and who you don’t. No more long drawn out transfers with rumors they’ll have to hop in early as possible to be picked up.

Will they offset the decreased number of days by allowing transfer of larger cash payments to those selected in the portal? Otherwise, this will put schools like FSU and UGa at a real disadvantage when purchasing the top transfers.

They can still get paid to leave any time. Just can't announce it

to rein in this free agency transfer portal.
IMO the NCAA needs to establish rules as follows:
1. The transfer portal may only be used once by an athlete without penalty. Anyone entering the transfer portal for a second time, regardless of reason, is required to sit out for 1 year of competition and lose 1 year of eligibility. No one may enter the transfer portal more than twice.
2. Those athletes that enter the transfer portal prior to completion of their sophomore year may do so for any reason, can compete immediately BUT will lose 1 year of eligibility. The only exceptions to this penalty are for those that receive NCAA waivers for bona fide medical conditions requiring transfer or loco parentis family hardships/emergencies.
3. After completion of the sophomore year, any athlete can enter the transfer portal for any reason without penalty so long as it is their first time in the portal.
In essence - make it to where everyone gets one "free" portal shot after completing their sophomore year and that any other portal use (without NCAA waiver) incurs a penalty.

It makes way too much sense. NCAA powers couldn't understand it.

IMHO, there should also be regulations put on coaches who want to leave any old time. Not sure how this would be done, be what's good for the athletes should be good for the coaches.

How will Dabo ever find the time to use it now?

With Dabo, it has been more a matter of willingness than time.
