NCAA Eliminating the National Letter of Intent

Apparently the NCAA is eliminating the National Letter of Intent. So does this mean no more national signing day?

NCAA ruining the sport I love, whats new?

I guess it's too binding and goes against the year-round, unrestricted free

Should be replaced with a contract offer

Schools should be required to post NIL/payment to incoming athletes. I wonder how long it will be when the requirement to attend college will be removed. With the current NIL why even require them to attend class. The institutions could save millions if they never attended class. And if they did, charge them full cost for tuition, books, living expenses, etc.

News from USuC...

"As I watched the game yesterday I couldn't help but feel crushed. We beat Furman by 4 TDs, but to me it looked like we got whipped."

What every D-1 college should do if a player is being offered NIL money, is to take away the free ride through college scholarships, and if it's a college education they want also, make them pay tuition just like a non athletic student pays...

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's how you never get ejute players again.

Oct 9, 2024, 6:12 PM

Schools that still offer scholarships in addition to what their NIL collectives offer will get all the best athletes.

That's how you wreck your school's athletic program.

increasingly dishonest, very dishonest, to call the sport College Football.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You got that backwards.

Oct 9, 2024, 6:13 PM

The old NCAA rules were not inky dishonest, they were illegal.

Stop blaming the victims of it.

Victims is right. This country has anti trust laws that were being violated for a reason. No matter how you want to spin they were getting screwed. Still are until rev share exist.

Nope, not even a little bit.

They were making out like kings already. Every pathetic excuse you clowns have to justify this ######## are completely disingenuous.

Fortunately, the federal courts and reality agree with me.

We may never know NIL income, however revenue sharing will likely be public since they are paid directly by the schools (unless they are private schools).

2025 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not even. The schools are barred from that.

Sonis the NCAA. If the athlete and/or a collective wants to voluntarily publish that info, that's fine.

No outside every can interfere with it in any way.

Alston vs NCAA
Tennessee vs Ohio

...for starters.

Cine in, man. The number of posts wanting things that violate other people's legal rights is appalling. Clemson folks are supposed to be smarter than that.

Interestingly, down here when the schools pay them directly Florida Sunshine law is probably going to consider them public employees and require disclosure.

FSU, UF, UCF, USF, FIU etc would all have to post it or at worst provide it under an FOI request.

Do you post your salary or earnings for the world to see? Also remember that in paper the school has nothing to do with NIL for now.

To be totally honest, National Letter of Intent turns out to be a total worthless contract that's signed by the players!!!

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have no idea what that means.

1

Oct 9, 2024, 10:48 AM

What will kids sign on signing day, or whenever they decide to "sign" with a university?
What if a kid signs an agreement to accept financial aid (a scholarship) but then never enrolls in the school?
What if a kid signs an agreement to accept financial aid from 5 schools in December, but doesn't enroll until June or August?

I'm sure there are guys a lot smarter than me who have figured all this stuff out. I just have no idea what it means.

I truly think that one change we could make to 2 year minimum commitment once you sign with a school. I liked the penalty of sitting out a year if you transferred but obviously that isn’t coming back

Yep, sitting out a year was ruled a violation of free agency and free market capitalism.

2025 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That violates the Sherman Antitrust Act...

There is no college sports anymore. It is all pay for play, therefore they are professionals and should thus be treated as such. Any payments that are received from the colleges and universities should be public knowledge as they are state entities, all costs of them being "in school" should come out of their own pockets as they are not student-athletes anymore.

Between an employee, a contractor, and 3rd party endorsements without using the words.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lots of holes in that

Oct 9, 2024, 6:17 PM [ in reply to Re: NCAA Eliminating the National Letter of Intent ]

NIL is a private contract between the athletes and the NIL collectives.
No 3rd party has the right to interfere in it or publicize it in any way.

Then there's the fact that a out of FBS programs are private schools. Do you REALLY want Duke, Stanford, Miami, and SMU to be able to avoid restrictions that we would have?

Signing day may be a signing of enrollment or something of that nature.
