Nancy Pelosi

Figured this warranted its own thread, since this started as a response to Miura but nobody ever reads his posts. He called Pelosi a "Communist"...and she isn't. She absolutely isn't. She's actually endemic of what needs to be fixed in our system, IMHO...but know your enemy: she's an insider's insider, not a "Deep Stater" or "Communist". She's a professional politician born to professional politicians, part of a professional politician class that was never supposed to exist in this country ("We The People", remember?) who's milked the system to an insane degree while public faith in her institution has plummeted to its current dismal levels. She's a Beltway creature to the bone.
Pelosi has a net worth of - get this! - $114+ million dollars. (I was kind of shocked when I read that. I knew it was a lot...but that's like, a lot, and she got it investing mostly in...drum roll: Big Tech.) And she's been in Congress since 1987...who knew public service was so...lucrative? And guess what: Congress is gearing up to regulate Big Tech. Guess who's going to be handing out committee assignments?
Whatever drivel and political ideology she's spouting publicly is for the masses. Her concern is power, period. And keeping it.

Interesting pic from 1961 that shows how long this public grift's been going, too. Pelosi's the hottie on the far left. The guy being sworn into the Renegotiation Board is her dad, who was also a US Rep from Maryland and the mayor of Baltimore.
We b!tch and squabble at each other, pointing fingers, and the real problem's the same it's ever been. I can point to two hundred just like her on the GOP side that are pretending to be MAGA True Believers right now as well. (Call me untrusting, but I just don't believe them either.)
Keep us all distracted, right? Now carry on your enthusiastic partisan P&R food-fight. It's gonna solve so much.

The far left and the far right are one in the same.
Also, politicians are interested in their own self-preservation first and foremost.

Absolutely be all for it.
Term limits.
Ban the dark money. Make them wear freaking patches of their sponsors like NASCAR drivers. Let everybody know who you're actually working for, and who paid your way to where you are.
One possible path around, again, and I'll keep harping this 'till I'm blue in the face, is ranked choice voting, so an unbought third-party candidate actually has a viable path around this perpetual Coke-or-Pepsi magician's not-really-a-choice-at-all artificial blockade around the will of the people we have going.

Huh. Hadn't looked that up. I guess her dad isn't dead yet so all that he has, has not yet passed to her.
Surprised it's so little, honestly. We did have a poster here who'd met her and dined with her at some public function - whoever it is, raise your hand, sorry I forgot - and apparently watched her bow and scrape all evening to some oil sheikhs from Saudi Arabia, though. So no question she's got more than a few dark-money NASCAR patches in her pocket, too. Entrenched political families always have that sprawling network of big-money donors they're aligned with.
We're not really choosing between good options, here. I just think even less of these rabble-rousing populist liars who are even more destructive than the corrupt career politicians they're trying to unseat.
Let's clean this bent system up and make it ours again (if it ever was ours, was there really ever a time "We The People" truly held sway?). Burning it all to the ground is not a good idea, not with Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, etc. all ready to pounce if we stumble. We alienate our allies and destroy our national brand the first thing we lose is the dollar as the world's reserve currency, and then our debt gets called...shiver. I don't even wanna see what comes next, then.

Same garbage BS they dish out with the tax rates

Poor? Oppressed? Well, vote for us and we will "stick it to the rich", lol.
We will increase the top marginal INCOME TAX rate on "the rich" to 35%, 45%, 90%, it doesn't matter. This added revenue (never materializes) will pay for your gubmint cheese. Problem is most "rich" have very little taxable INCOME. Bezos makes $80,000 a year in INCOME for a reason. The "rich" are taxed at capital gains rates. Heck, most don't have a salary at all, Bezos is being generous. And at the end of the day, federal tax revenue, whether the top INCOME bracket is 90% or 29%, or anything in between.....federal revenues have ALWAYS been between 15-20% of GDP. ALWAYS. Since WW2 anyway.
And Pelosi is playing the game too. All that money, INVESTMENTS, STOCKS, sold and taxed at capital gains rates, and that's not even counting insider trading and lavish perks exchanged for regulations.
And Republicans do this as well, so it's bipartisan. 90% of America's problems are in the few places (you have to really look hard) where you find bipartisanship. Free trade, illegal immigration, easy debt (fed)....and they're all MORE than happy to have people divided on gay marriage, environmental policies, and whatever else they can think of. Neither side can have their nuts take over. Dems or Pubs. Tea party, squashed by the republicans. AOC crowd, squashed by Pelosi. Nope, it is what it is. Just wait, only a matter of time.

anyone who opposes legislation that eliminates politicians owning stock or campaign finance reform, both sides of the aisle, is the problem.

It's almost as if this country was started by a bunch of ultra rich "gentlemen farmers" who convinced the pitchfork toting masses their lives sugged and they needed revolution.
Then every law that was made and every war that was fought thereafter was to preserve, protect, and enhance that power structure for those few, and the occasional outsider that works their way into the circle.
I'm speaking hypothetically of course.
