My kid is taking an OV in a few weeks

Hi Everyone My son just committed to play golf at Clemson. We are taking an OV in a few weeks. While on the visit, I was told there will be time for us to do some sight seeing. I was wondering if folks had suggestions for food, things to see, and a good store to buy some Clemson clothing. I took him for an unofficial visit a few months back but my wife hasn’t seen campus and was hoping some folks could provide some recommendations that would show her the best the area has to offer. Calhoun Corners in century old 2-story mercantile store with modern additions..or Pixie & Bill’s Steaks.

Both out 2-3 blocks from downtown at end of College Ave where it meets Hwy 123. take left for a block to Pixy’s (on left) or go across Hwy 123 1/4 of a block past old railroad station and take a right to Calhoun Corners.

Oh, that little defunct railroad station is where the Famous Clemson football coach John Heisman stole out of Tigertown and headed to GT for promise of the gate’s receipts which was a 1st in college football, plus a salary.

Lastly, a tour of the John C Calhoun Home (aka Ft Hill Plantation) is a cultural move and is located on campus left of Tillman/Hall and at the top of the hill road looking down at the football stadium. Visiting is free and check out his little separate library office in back too.

Mr Calhoun was a VP twice, Sec of State, Sec of War and a US Senator..was 6’6” tall as were two of his famous regular visitors Daniel Webster (dictionary guy) and Patrick Henry (“Give me Liberty or Give Me Death”).

Saying, Tigertown isn’t all about winning sports teams with PAWs on their uni’s! LOL~

If you or your wife are into nature a stroll through the SC botanical gardens would be nice
Find out about the shepherd hotel it shows what we try to be about

Rick Erwin’s is the high end steakhouse but just take a walk downtown and you’ll find some cool spots
The tiger sports shop has probably the largest selection of gear but also tiger town graphics has a lot of unique locally designed cool stuff
Don’t forget to have a beer at the famous Esso club where sportscasters across the generations have thrown one back
Finally you must go to the Hendrix center for the best ice cream in the world at 55 exchange. Made from dairy fresh from our own dairy farm
Have fun and come back to the orange and white game in April so you can see campus in it’s full spring glory

P.S. don’t be afraid to stop at any random tailgate and tell them your story; you won’t leave hungry or thirsty.
