saw a 5-foot black snake in the bedroom doorway. I grabbed a bo staff that stands in the corner and tried to push the snake out toward the back door as he tried to strike. Then he scurried behind a credenza just inside the bedroom and disappeared. I looked behind and inside the credenza and don't see him, but I know he's there. Just called a critter removal guy and now it's watch and wait.

That snake WILL NOT hurt you. It can only cause you to hurt yourself.
It will most assuredly leave the way it got in when it finds out there is no food and water inside your house. He's not looking to hibernate in June. He'll leave if you don't catch him. Save your money on the critter guy.
