NAME ONE THING NIH FUNDING AT IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS HAS DONE

And I just want to say up front how ridiculous it is that this is in the politics forum, but given the free-wheeling contempt for academia among the MAGA cultists, I think you guys ought to see an example of what research funding does. I don’t know though, maybe someone who didn’t go to college or maybe RTD with his semester of statistics 30 years ago can explain why this is a globalist plot or whatever.

Kiran Musunuru, a cardiologist by trade who runs one of the best genetics labs in the world has just published the first ever personalized genetic treatment for a rare inborn error of metabolism. They created a unique gene therapy for an infant and saved his life. CRISPR tech has been around for about 20 years give or take. This is a monumental breakthrough.

RTD won’t weigh in on this one, as I doubt the disgraced former doctors on Twitter he follows won’t have much to say about this, seeing as they can’t sell supplements or blog subscriptions to an audience that doesn’t care about actual medicine or research. They’ll stick to re-litigating Covid vaccines until the end of time, they know where their bread gets buttered.

We could save a lot of wasted money by not focusing on that wasted science money and focusing strictly on prayer to get Jesus our Lord and Savior to fix things.

I am literally alive because of NIH funded research and trials into Neuroblastoma in the mid 1970s (example : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/788889/). But they won't care because it doesn't make a good "but the fraud" sound bite.

Shovel that propaganda moron. The vast majority of NIH funding is still happening. Im sure the concept of limiting indirect spending, which always ends up getting spent on left wing kook ideology which you probably ########## to, breaks your heart but if you wanna be angry at someone be angry at the left wing trash who take these funds and then #### away large amounts on God knows what. If you love actual relevant research so much why do you cry like a ##### at the idea of indirect spending, which has nothing to do with said research, being limited? Jesus you're pathetic.

about indirect spending, and now both of you hate it, without understanding it.

"...ends up getting spent on left wing kook ideology"

"...which has nothing to do with said research"

Back these statements up with literally anything remotely factual. Or, alternatively, admit that you know less than nothing about how institutional grants and funding actually work, besides what that angry fella on talk radio told you last week.

CRISPR is great but scary. It’s basically like AI or the Atom bomb in terms of what it could do to the human race. It just depends on us not ####### it up.

This book does a great job explaining how public grant money with private investment work together to fund all the basic research that took place over decades, going back even further past Craig Ventner all the way back to Watson and Crick in the 1950s.

Incident I read the other day about the rogue Chinese scientist, who figured prominently toward the end of the book, the one who edited the germ level twins to cure them of HIV, he is basically locked down in China, and his crazy American wife isn’t allowed into the country. Crazy story, but some scientists want to move too fast and break things, which is why people are nervous about the tech. Our DNA is likely to be corrupted beyond repair if we’re allowed to edit DNA at the germ level. Mutations take a long time, we will just be speeding evolution but thousands of years. This has a lot of ethical questions.

But if handled responsibly, will save a lot of young a babies from horrible outcomes, so quite miraculous. Thanks to people at NIH and other like Jen Doudna and her team.
