Obviously, I'm interested in finding out who the next play by play guy will be.
So far, there are no rumors, at least from any source that might know, floating around. Whatever they are doing, they are keeping it close to the vest.
I suspect that after the Spring game this Saturday (Deckerhoff will call that game and then retire) I imagine more information and rumors will surface.

Gene is really the last of the old guard PBP

guys, hate to see the era end. He was from the same hometown as my dad, Mineral Ridge, OH. What are the odds of two legendary PBP guys coming from a town of 1500 people? Oh, and Gene was my dad's family paperboy growing up ??

Today's unpopular opinion - Deckerhoff ain't all that.

I've listened to him for 20+ years as the Bucs guy . . . and the occasional semi-hole broadcast. I never liked how he showed me the game.
Things he's got / is:
1. Immediately recognizable voice
2. That "old skool" feel & vibe about him.
3. Freaking superman - and an AWESOME wife - and an awesome scheduling & logistics team - traveling ALL OVER the place, usually on back-to-back days / same day - to watch football games - from August to maybe early February. WOW - what a gig !
4. He was a homer - and that was awesome - even though it was the semiholes.
Things that made me go mehhhhh:
1. Leaves you hanging - what just happened - you were talking and then you stopped - happened a lot.
2. Called it EMPHATICALLY and then in the blink of an eye - completely reverses it and made your head explode - ESPECIALLY when it went from the Bucs doing something great to the other team doing the great thing.
3. He was no Jim Phillips - that's for sure.

Not a fan of our Munson, but the leg jumpers Larry Munson was great. Jim Phillips and Larry Munson were the best in my book. Bob Fulton of the coots was good too, especially when he came to Clemson to call a series when Jim Phillips passed away.

John Ward at Tennessee was in that group too. "Give HIM SIX...Touchdown.. TENNESSEE" .OLD school with a scruffy voice.
